Deleon vs Cortez

I was wanting to get an ID machine to use with my Tejons at some sites I have where I think an ID machine would come in handy. One site is an old swimming pool with way too many shallow clad coins and trash and I would want to pick around them for the older and hopefully deeper "silver" coins. I've read that the Deleon has basically the same "guts" as the Cortez and at $200 cheaper, that's the way I'm leaning as I probably won't use this detector much. Any thoughts from experienced users would help me out. Thanks, Ray in Waco, TX.

Hi,

I use the DeLeon and I really like it. In fact I just got back from a site I've hunted many times over the past 10+ years with some of the top brand machines and I found many wheats and a nice old brass fitting that looks like it may be from a very old bed. It's funny but in past years I found only a couple wheat cents at this site. Today I found 9 wheats in less than an hour. They weren't too deep only 4 to 5 inches. They all gave a very loud solid signal. By the TID I knew they were pennies before I even dug them.

The DeLeon is a killer for old pennies, nickels, and silver. I've found 2 nickles this year already while over the past 10 years I found only 1 that I can recall.

I found a child's silver ring last week that was 8 inches deep and gave a loud signal solid signal.

I like other major brand machines too but I find myself using the DeLeon because it's so much fun. I just laugh out loud when I see it's a nickel or wheat. I love that TID!
