Deleon vs. Cortes...some questions

Woodstock

New member
Has anyone compared the depth differences between these two Tesoros? I know they have some differences but Tesoro says they have the same circuitry between them so you can expect the same depths and performance. So is the Cortes just a Deleon on steroids? It be nice to know if the difference is just bells and whistles between them. So if anyone knows there depth comparisons then post them here.

Jeff-----I had them both but it was several years between owning/using them, I didn't have them together for side by side comparisons.-----The way I remember it, there wasn't much difference in them as far as depth is concerned (disc mode).----What I didn't like about them (and needed) is that they don't have a manual g.b. effective in the disc mode (which neither one of them has).----They have a pre-set g.b. in disc.------I guess that would still be ok if your ground (unlike mine) isn't very mineralized.----Bottom line---(all things being equal), I think they would get about the same depth.---------Del

Thanks Del,
I live in Northern Wisconsin and I not really sure how much mineralization is here and how much that it would effect them. Maybe someone else knows. I know I have no problems digging up to my armpits ( well almost ) with me Tejon, but I can GB that machine. So I'm hoping not to get the same depth, but decent depth. Almost every machine can reach 7 inches without a problem even with auto GB. But I'm looking past that to at least 9 to 10 inches or better. Maybe I better stick with the Tejon. I want to know as much as I can, before I trade or buy either of them. So again, thanks for your reply and if anyone else has info please contribute to this thread. Happy Trails, Jeff

I had the Deleon, and if you have high mineralized ground,DO NOT get one,you will have wasted your money.Tesoro even told me to get a machine with manual ground balance.

well i can say i've owned 6 deleons and liked them all, did have some hotter than others my deepest dig was a wheat penny using the 7" concentric coil at almost 8" deep and i tried some gold prospecting with mine in a river not far from me thats famous for finding nuggets once in a while and i will say that running in all metal when i would run into a hot rock there was no mistake compared to a metal target, but like you guys say its to bad there isn't a ground bal set up for disc mode that would be awesome the mod is possible i guess but from what i understand its hooked up into the TID circuit somehow and would throw off the target indication all off, to bad there weren't a way to bypass alll of that because otherwise it would be a kick ass machine, do have a cortes coming i've always wanted to try and we'll see what happens i guess i'm fortunate that the most of my grounds that i hunt are very mild

amcjavelin--- Yeah, that's about what I've heard about the Deleon to in regards to adjusting the g.b.----Seems like I read somewhere that there wasn't enough room in there on the Deleon to ad a g.b. pot either.-----If that Deleon had a manual g.b., I think I'd have one right now.----Not the Cortes though--too little (tiny) screen "read out".----That's something else for you to think about Jeff--if you're like me & got "tired ole eyes"------------Del

I had a Deleon for a yr, I liked it alot but man did it run hot. I would take it places I went with my silverumax and it was unusable. I did dig a few deep coins with it but eventually got rid of it for another silverumax. The numbers would sometimes be incorrect but the bar graph was almost always right. Maybe I should have tried it with different coils before I sold it?

i found it really run good on the 8" donut coil and not bad with the 10.5" big donut plus i run the 7" concentric alot to the only coil i wished i could've tried was the 11" wide scan which might work real good on bad soil since its pre-ground balanced i tried it with 4" sniper and it was awesome with that coil was deep for what it was 5" dimes sometimes!
