Deleon & Gold

How does the DeLeon perform at finding gold? Such as rings and chains etc.

when it comes to responsiveness to gold jewelry.
There are many makes and models that can do well at finding thin, low-conductive gold chains and rings, but it is the operator who defeats him/her self by using too much discrimination and/or relying on visual Target ID to identify probable gold jewelry.

Thanks Monte. But isn't the DeLeon mostly visual? I tought it only has one tone. I hate to rely on only visual TargetID, but with only one tone what do you do?

you will have to recover a lot of targets, both good and bad.
"But isn't the DeLeon mostly visual?".... No, I would say the DeLe

The stock 8"x9" is a great coil for covering large open areas but if it is small items you are after, and gold in particular, use the smallest coil that you can. It will be slower searching for sure but the little 4" will find chains, rings, and earings that the stock coil may completely overlook. HH!

Can you tell me if there is an optimum 'physical' sweep speed for the deleon like how many seconds should it take me to sweep my coil from left to right and back to the left position? also, will the Deleon tollerate being swept VERY SLOWLY, and if so, will this mean I am sacrificing depth because of this?
I agree with all the stuff in your post. I go by the audio response rather than what comes up on the meter, except when it SOUNDS like big iron and the meter shows a big fat zero. Sometimes the meter gives me a visual indication that tells me it's an iron target, but the audio sounds good, with no 'SCRATCHY' sound when I sweep the coil on the edge of the target. In this case I dig it, and 7 times out of 10 it turns out to be a non ferrous target
I am still learning the subtle tones that tell you if it's a 'digger or a leaver'... I had that nailed down with my SS2 now I'm having to learn it all again! But as you say in your post, I'd rather dig 50% of the unwanted junk targets than over discriminate and miss even 2% of the wanted targets.
Hope you can help me out with my questions Monte

"Can you tell me if there is an optimum 'physical' sweep speed for the deleon like how many seconds should it take me to sweep my coil from left to right and back to the left position?".... An excellent 'rule-of-thumb' is that a good sweep speed is about 2 feet per second. That means if you are making about a 4 foot left-to-right pass, it will tage about 2 seconds to go from left-to-right.
"... also, will the Deleon tollerate being swept VERY SLOWLY, and if so, will this mean I am sacrificing depth because of this?".... I will say yes, but that is really dependant upon your definition of "very" slowly!
