Deleon depth

dirt lizard

Member
I have never seen anything on the depth of a Deleon. Can anyone tell me about it who has one?

I used to hunt with a guy who used on in our club....We were the only tesoro users ! I have seen him dig a deep Indian penny at a park at almost 8". Seems like the depth of most mid range machines, I never used one but would love to some time

8" on a penny sounds about right. I was quite surprised with the depth on the Cortes when I got it.
Depth seems to be almost the same as the vaquero, they just Id way better.
Deleon and Cortes use the same circuitry.

I had a Deleon, it had problems here in VA working. Set it back to factory thinking something was wrong with it. It checked out A Ok Rusty did not recommend it for here. So check your soil type. Other guys have done quite well with them here.

Hello.
Made this chart in 2009. It was for checking the depth of a DeLeón with the stock 9x8 inch coil.

The Deleon I had was deep. It would air test just a little shy of my Vaquero. I liked using it a lot. May pick up another one someday.

I like my Deleon as a quick turn on and go detector. I did make a mistake in buying the 10" epsilon coil. It's deep, but very unstable. Any EMI nearby, and you can't turn the sensitivity down enough to make it stable. I keep finding myself having to switch back to the stock coil.

I had a Deleon, Bandido II and Compadre for a few years. The Deleon might air test decent (mine never got a quarter more than 9-10" in the air) and in the ground, the display may have said 8", but the true depth would usually be less, sometimes much less. When a detector has to use processing to display target values on an LCD, it affects the speed even in micro seconds to recover.

My Compadre was faster than the Deleon and Bandido in recovery. I believe what makes Tesoro's so deep and so fast is their circuit simplicity. But when you add things like LCD, Sum, Notch width, etc, you make the basic Tesoro depth and speed demons take a breath for the added processes. Processes that the unit wished it didn't have to do.

If you want a digital display, go with the companies that specialize in digital displays. Tesoro's have never been known for that, nor do I believe they want to compete in that arena.

Tesoro's have the best sound circuitry of all detectors, IMO. Tesoro's uniqueness in a world of digital displays is it's strength.
