DeLeon Depth Advice

Hey guys,

Got permission to hunt one of the original houses built in my town (around 1909). It's been rainy and drizzling here, but I took the DeLeon with 7 inch concentric out for about four hours on Fri. I was hitting tons of modern clad and even a few spills with a few wheat cents. I went back all day Sat and used the 5.75 concentric that Tesoro matched up to my DeLeon. My God I was finding coins everywhere (tons that I missed with the 7. The 5.75 was darn near surgical)! I ended up with 44 pennies (three wheats), nine (9) dimes, five (5) quarters, two (2) nickels, one (1) star and crescent token, and one (1) Puritan Hosiery/ Fitz Overalls token of which I can find little to no information on!

Anyway, I didn't find a single silver! I know they are there! I was finding coins on an average of probably four inches, with some up to seven or eight. I was running on sens at about seven, Discrim on foil, and thresh 3/4. The D runs smooth at these settings, but I know that I must need to go deeper. Besides the obvious turning up the sens and down the Descrim, has anyone that runs the D discovered any little "secrets" for wringing out some more depth? I'm going to try and hit the location for another full day or two and try to find that DEEP silver! I know it's there. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also, any info on the token would be appreciated as well! Thanks guys!

My first thoughts are more sens. less disc. and the 9X8 coil. However, you may need to clean out much of the trash first.

I will also add that depth is not always the answer. I have found silve as little as 2" down. Keep at it and good luck to you, Beale.

I'm with Barber Bill, the 9x8 coil was the stock coil on the unit when it was new and therefore Tesoro matched it up to it at the factory & it should give you pretty much the max on depth that you'll get from the Deleon. If you had them match it to the 7" or 5.75 you may want to have it re-done again with the 9x8 . the accessory coils are made to work with the units and shouldn't have to be matched to the Deleon. I have the 5.75 for the Tejon and it works fine and I see no need to send it in to have it matched. You lose depth with any smaller coil.. it just happens. the 12x10 might give you a little more but not much more.

keep disc down to foil or a little less and sens up as high as it will go and still run smooth. threshold is another big factor in deep coins, if it's set to high you will not here the faint deep signals. i set the thresh so it is a smooth just barely audible hum.

Try all metal and size it. I would be tempted to dig almost all. You know how coins can false at that depth. People could have put top soil out at one time which would put real old coins deeper than reg MD could reach. I have a 12x10 coming for sale on TQ site soon. 100 w/cover+shipping. Im not sure if you would need to send w/Deleon for tune-up but with the possiblities that are there I would. I could bring my CZ3D over and help you out.Of coarse for a small cut.
