I have a Minelab Explorer II and have used a White's XLT in the past. I mainly just hunt Civil War sites since I live in Southeast Virginia (Petersburg/Richmond Areas). The Minelab is a fine machine and I have been using it for three years now and have found alot of nice finds, but it is heavy (after 6-8 hours of hunting) and a power hog. I have several friends that use Nautilus IIBA and they sure do get deep and are hard to beat, but the weight issue after a few hours of swinging gets to the old arm and elbow. I have heard but not seen that the Dejon gets just as deep as the Minelabs and Nautilus? I will admit that the Minelab can not touch the Nautilus in the depth catagory....I've seen first hand a Nautilus pick up targets in the 12" plus range where my Minelab does not even break a thresh hold and out of the hole comes a button or a minie ball.
I have read some stories and I want a new detector for relic hunting. I will keep my Minelab in case I hunt a park or old house site with lots of trash. Any comments, concerns, or information would be very helpful. Thanks!
