Defying Winter

28 degrees for high didn't stop my friend & I, we went out anyway; good thing the ground isn't frozen yet. I found $2.42 and a few trinkets, liking forward to hunting tomorrow with a few more friends, they are saying the temps will be warmer.

We had snow today and I said no. I am just too old. ROB

The weather guru's just said the temps will be upper 30's so I'm hoping the inch of snow we got last night will be mostly gone.

Here a question about yesterday

Why sensitivity so low? Why all metal so high? What program are you using? Answer these questions and we will go from there. ROB

Rob I'm not using any program, I'm not sure what each does so I made little changes along the way. I did read your reply as I was headed out the door and made some changes. Changed to all metal to 80 and Discrimination (Sensitivity?) to 75, I was using Rx at 7 then jumped to 10 than 15, ran the machine at 15 for most of the time but towards the end of the day I started receiving feed back and lowered the Rx to 7 again.

The stock setting on my machine is Rx 7, All metal 55, Dis. 75, any help is appreciated.

Also making a new post of todays find.

Gary

Well you lost me. You have to be using a program. What detector are you using? The lowest sensitivity is 80 in the coin program???? The C/J is 88.

Use the Rx gain to accommodate interference and then utilize the Disc Sensitivity to optimize depth. For real depth, the important setting is the Discrimination sensitivity settings. These settings are what make the detector more sensitive to deeper and smaller targets. If background noise is too loud, you will never hear the deeper and smaller targets. Again, you cannot run the AC beyond where it is stable either. Too much Sensitivity will also cause noise and obscure targets and destroy the benefits of a higher level of Sensitivity. I found that in moderate soil the 5HZ Band gave much better depth. I just run the RX up till I get interference then I back off. Then I try to adjust my AC or Disc Sensitivity up till I get interference and back off. The Disc Sensitivity is where you get the depth. The RX Gain is really how loud the signal gets, not the sensitivity to the target. You need it high enough to hear a good signal but not so high as to hear ground interference or outside electrical interference. ROB
