DeepSeeker Coil Question

Happy_Hour

Are all Deepseeker coils 5 pin even though the name Deepseeker is not printed on them.

Depends upon the year, when 4 pins switched to 5 pins, some had female plug ends, some had male ends.
More than likely the 5 th pin was never used. Look inside your box at your connector see how many wires attach to it. usually you'll find the center pin has no wire going to it.
So 4 pin connector coils can be refitted with a 5 pin connector as the 5 pin can be converted to a 4 pin. This mod was done back in the day by dealers who had a large stock of 4 pins on hand so they can be used with the newer ADS Deepseekers.

......if I remember correctly the major reason for the change was because Charles was Mad that many of his detectors were sporting coils from other Manufacturer's.....mainly the D-Tex Concentric Coils...so the change was Not because of electronic improvement ....it was to Stop the practise of using Non-Garrett Coils on Garrett Detectors.....JT

My control box has male connector and is missing the center wire. So your saying that the deepseeker coil connector will also be missing the center wire. If deepseeker is not printed on the coil then it is not a deepseeker coil. Then the groundhog coil will have all 5 wires with no deepseeker printed on the coil. Bare with me because I am trying to understand the difference between the 5 and 15 KHZ coil set up...

Only Groundhog coils will say Groundhog and or have a picture of a Groundhog on it.
There will generally be a gold sticker on the coil indicating frequency. Master Hunters Deepseekers (long green control box) are 5 khz, Groundhogs are 15khz.

If you have a Deepseeker it will be 5khz.
What I was saying is if you have a 5 pin connector on your box, only 4 pins are being used. The center is not. You can then look for a 4 pin Deepseeker coil,
then convert it to a 5 pin to fit your detector using the correct 5 pin connector. The 5 pin searchcoils are tough to get as they are hard to find only made for several years.
So you buy a more common 4 pin coil and convert it.

Visit my website, http://www.treasurelinx.com/garrett.html the Garrett page and download the catalogs with your detector in it, you will see all the specs and accessories made for it. That should get you on the right track with the info you need. Owners manual should be on Garretts website.

When I download the catalog for my detector it won't open.. Says it's a bin file, cannot read, any idea how else I can do it. I'm using an Android xoom tablet, maybe that is the problem.. looking for the GTAx 1000, Found it in the 95 catalog, Thanks
Sonny

That's very strange, I download pdf's all the time and they work.. some reason this is called a bin file.. I'll try it again.. thanks..

Nope, it says downloadable file.bin, the other link I downloaded the manual shows and open just fine.. Comes in as a PDF file..Not sure why but it doesn't work.. never had any trouble with PDF's.. Thanks any way.. It is the 95 catalog that won't cooperate.. :-((

and I will email it to you as an attachment. maybe that will help
