Deepest Tesoros Made?

Well-known member
I currently own 9 Tesoro metal detectors. Guess I am "ate up" with them. Was doing some thinking about past years metal detecting with different models from the Tejon down to the cheaper models, and have come up with my own conclusion about depth with different models. What really boggles my mind is the Silver Umax detector, modulation is different than other models, (doesn't seem to get quieter with deeper targets). I have dug coins with the stock coil at 8 inches plus with that little wonder. It is certainly almost as deep as the Tejon and Vaquero, that I use frequently. The Tejon shines on jewelry at depth, and is the best with chains, and smaller jewelry. Might need a backhoe if I put on the 10x12 on the Silver Umax!!!

9 detectors from deepest to not so deep:

1. Tejon
2. Vaquero
3. Silver Umax
4. Cibola
5. Tigershark
6. Bandido
7. Conquistador
8. Cutlass Umax
9. Silver Sabre

I would be highly interested in your thoughts on your models that you use.

Thanks:

Put that 10X12 on your Silver and it will be on the top of that list you have there---for sure!-------Might make the Silver a little "ratty" (unstable) in some areas you're hunting in-depending on ground conditions & what's in the ground---and it WILL make the Silver a little front heavy-----but OH MY, the depth!

I have owned the tigershark for about 5 years now and have dug some deep targets out of the water. I recently purchased the Tejon and cannot wait until I get my hands on it. Sadly I am deployed until June, but I know that the Tejon is patiently awaiting my return. I cannot wait to try it out. I am a firm believer that Tesoro is the top in Metal detectors.
Good topic. It is nice to know that I am going to spend my time digging.
Does anyone know where I can download the Tejon manual while I wait to get back. Thanks for an interesting topic.

My Vaquero is the deepest seeking machine I own.
My Silver uMax is not as deep seeking but more than deep enough for park, playground, and athletic field work.
The Vaquero is a very easy machine to use once you've amassed some hours on it.
It is one of the finest relic machines I've ever used and that includes my old Metrotech which I had a longtime love affair with.
The Vaquero works very well in parks and playgrounds too, but its depth seeking capabilities are overkill there.
That's why I use my Silver uMax in parks and playgrounds.
I don't think any machine, irregardless of brand or model, is any more or any less than what you make of it.
If you hunt around other hunters long enough you will see guys with $200 detectors eating up guys using $1200 machines.
Does this mean the $1200 machine is no good?
No, of course not.
What it means is the guy with the $200 machine knows his machine better than the guy with the $1200 detector.
While I am speaking on this subject let me say I think air tests are for air heads.
I put no stock in them.
I want to see what a detector can do about finding coins in the ground, not in the air.
In over 40 years of detecting I have never found a single coin in the air.

I agree that the Silver uMax is deeper than the Silver Sabre uMax. Discrimination affects depth MUCH more on the Sabre. The Silver uMax seems to almost amplify deep targets when DISC is turned up. And yes with the 12x10 coil I get Etrac depth.

My depth estimations are purely from experience with targets in ground. I do not warrant any air tests, and really have never been able to air test any of my detectors in my house (too much emi). I am beginning to believe that there are some differences between machines of the same make and model. Some are just more deep than others. Tolerances within electronics cannot be absolute. The same can be said about high power rifles, one rifle may shoot a 1 inch group, and the next rifle (same make and model) will shoot a 3 inch group.

Well, I dug a 20" target (a small rusted boat nail) with my Sand Shark today in wet sand. I would say that is fairly deep.. Terry

You're right Terry---that is fairly--uhhh--I mean VERY deep!! :)

Depth isn't everything but certainly a consideration. Properly ground balanced a Tejon is probably Tesoro's deepest on land and of course when we get into the water do expect serious depth out of Tesoro's water units in fresh water along with a super gold ring unit which leaves many competitors in the dust especially for small gold chains and the like. Having said the above its surprising the depth some learned operators get out of quite inexpensive Tesoros and we all know Tesoro's service after the sale so can certainly understand Bulletmans baseball team of Tesoro's.

These posts irritate me. First there was the big deal on The Compadre- so $150 later I have one. Now the 12X10" coil for my Silver umax. So, here goes some more doughl:veryangry::ranting::unsure:

slingshot------Just get that 10X12 for your Silver and that will be the end of it---you can live happily ever after!!!!----WE PROMISE (we think)! :lmfao:

ooooooh man, don't forget to buy a 7" concentric coil, just traded for one and it's great on my Eldorado. :wiggle:
I actually like it better than the 5.75" I had. It's destined for the Silver.

Where I just bought that Tejon, I think it comes with a 9X8 coil. Which other coil options should I be keeping an eye outfor. I plan on learning it for deep coins in parks and for deep relics as well. Is there a specific coil that I should be looking at purchasing or is the stock one good to go.I await your wisdom oh great Tesoro Gods. haha
