Deepest Sovereign?

I was wondering is the Newest Model GT the Hottest Sovereign or Elite,Or are they all the same in Moderate ground? I had a Friend who had them all and swears the Elite was the Hottest? Maybe He had a Hot one?

I have used both the GT and Elite, but have never ran these two side by side on a target. My guess they would be very close? I currently use an Elite.

Maybe it is just me and what I am used to, but tried 2 different Elites and to me everything sounded deeper than it actualy was, like the audio was weaker to me. When I got my GT it seem to have the nice loud tones as the XS and the XS2 were, but notice the GT was falsing on some rusty bottle caps and learned that I had to check my signals better and could see from some angles it didnt sound as good, but a good target sounded good from what ever way you come at it and those that just nulled from one way were dug as they were coins next to iron. Myself I feel the GT is more sensitive to them all with the XS2, the XS, the Elite and the original in that order, but like I say that is me and my type of coin hunting.

If you had a choice of the GT or Elite and were new to the Sovereigns then I would pick the Elite, but if you are experience with the Sovereign then the GT would be my choice.

My brother and I a few year ago made a comparison with the Elite and a XS-2.Both Sovereigns had the same coils and the Elite would pickup deeper targets missed by the XS-2.Both are deep detectors in this test, but the Elite was a little deeper.I think the early GTs used the same circuit board used by the Elite. I bought an XS back in the 90's, and it turned out to be extremely hot. My cousin saw how deep I was digging up coins, so he ordered one, and his performance was average.
Its amazing how the performance can vary from detector to detector!

Did your Friend buy it new from a dealer?? The reason I ask is some try to do mods to them and they don't work as good and resell them again and let the next person worry about it. I bought 2 used ones that were for sale and they said they didn't get the performance that other were getting and figure they were too hard to use. When I got them both had been modified, one had the tones set as high as they would go so it wasn't as easy to ID while the other one had a silent search mod done to it which to me makes it easier to listen to, but can not hear those deep signals that just change the threshold and if you don't have a threshold how can you hear it change.? Anyway I set them back to what mine sounded like and they worked excellent and resold them. From then on I would ask if any mods were done and what they were before I would buy them.

Good luck with your XS2 you got from George these along with the XS are the preferred ones for many.

There used to be a guy in Tennessee that would super tune the sovereigns , for a fee. Does anyone still do this? My cousin still has the detector. It might be worthwhile to just have it tuned up.
Thanks for wishing me well with my " new Sov". I should have never sold the first one, as it was super hot. Live and learn.

Gary the guy who did the Tennessee super tune mods told me he liked the Original Sovereign the best.I've had a couple Originals and found they had an appetite for hot rocks.I put a remote pinpoint switch on the handle to check targets better, which eliminated some but I still dug too many hot rocks.

Or is there someone who still does that?

Hi Rick, I was on the design/test team for the GT when I working at Minelab. All I can say is that a lot of work went into the audio of the GT, and I'm still proud of the outcome.
