Deepest gold in the sod?

Ism

Well-known member
Well, this year was my first year for "solid gold" rings. I found 6 of them (all in the turf). One had been lost 5 years ago and was less than 2 inches in the earth. In fact, all the rings save one, were found within 2 inches of the surface. The deeper one was found at around 5 inches. I believe it is fairly old and possibly turned under as the property was developed. I'm new to finding the yellow stuff and was wondering what you seasoned hunters experienced with gold depths on land.

Looking back on all the gold, silver, platinum & Titanium rings I have found over the years, they seemed to be in the 1-3 inch range. Can't remember digging a deep one:unsure:

My Tesoros found a lot of gold, all was 1 - 4" deep except for a 1974 girls class ring that was 7" or deeper. Chains get caught in the grass roots and don't go deep in the soil.

What have you found to be some of the best places to hunt for gold jewelry? I've been a relic hunter for the last three years and I need to start expanding out to do other types of hunting, so please excuse my ignorance on this.

TIA,
Bill

overall would be in areas where people sunbathe and swim. Some other good places to search would be tot-lots and parks. Best of luck and HH!

On land....sports fields and school yards. I have yet to find anything but junk jewelry in tot lots. Thats not to say others haven't had success, I just haven't. I have also found jewelry on the sidelines where people watch sporting events. I have only had recent success with gold but all of it based on sports. I don't live real close good beaches so I do most of my hunting on land, but beaches are another hot spot.
