(posted this in Civil war as well...but just had to show off the depth of the e-trac here...)

Left the house to go coin hunting at a site dating back to 1815. Tons of trash and only dug a couple coins (early 1900's pennys) but that didn't really matter once i came across what's in the photo below.

A nice mini ball and my best CW find ever... a Eagle Officer's Sword Belt Plate!! (Dug the buckle at 16"!! Gotta love this e-trac)

Sweet !!!!! Finds !!!!!!

WOW..... Amazing plate.. nice 69 cal too........

Very nice. Firts time I've seen an Eagle Officer's Sword Belt Plate. Thanks for sharing.

Simply absolutely freaking awesome!!! No doubt about the depth capabilities, especially on a buckle of that size. I once dug a sweet sounding signal in concrete like dirt... 14 inches in the ground and 15 minutes later I found a crushed soda can.

Wow...that plate is simply amazing!!! I love it. Big congrats on that find. What part of the country are you from?

Very nice! A lot of people think of an E-Trac as a deep silver machine but as you know it can hold it's own finding deep relics as well. HH :minelab:

Wow sweet.Tell us a little more about the hunt, just a chirp?ID #'s.

Thanks everyone! Was hunting an old plantation site (1815) that also saw lots of civil war activity in central louisiana. I've found several minie balls in the past. This time i was mostly looking for coins...i'm still waiting on a seated quarter. I had picked up a couple of pennies..a '14 (unfortunately not a D) and a '23. Then hit the minie ball at about 8". The very next swing hit a very very weak 12-46/47. Solid signal from all directions, but very faint (i run gain pretty low so i can hear the deep ones). I got all excited thinking big silver... then kept digging and digging and digging. Almost gave up a few times thinking it had to be a can. Finally hit the corner of the plate. Still didn't know exactly what it was, but i was just happy it wasn't a can! Got it out and cleaned up and forgot all about silver! I'm still smiling this morning.... no doubt it's the only plate like this i'll probably ever dig. Picked up another pretty smashed up minie ball...and a few more wheats. It started to rain and had to leave...so i'll be back next weekend. HH

Incredible!!!
Congrats,
Bunker

Question on cleaning to anyone that may know... Should i leave it in the condition that it's in? Or use something to bring a shine back to the brass? What are your thoughts?
