Deepest coin found with BH 505

If you have a BH 505 what is the deepest coin you found with it. And what was the coin. I think my 505 will only get about 5 inches with the stock coil. If you have the 10" coil again whats the deepest coin you found.

I had a 505 but never used it much. In testing it would detect coins at depths of about 5 inches, but this was with a 4 inch coil. I would expect that it would do at least 10 inches with the stock 8 inch coil. I had a 202 that could detect coins at 12 inches with the stock 8 inch coil. This was on a quarter that was laying flat. Out of about ten passes it would get it maybe 4 times. Your machine might need to be calibrated if 5 inches is all it can do.

In my test garden I get a dime about 4" deep. My Landstar gets about the same, maybe 1/2" deeper. This is with the sens at 3/4 and disc at zero. This is in moderate ground (ground balances at 64 on a T2) but is about 40 ft. from buried power lines.

got a mercury dime 9inchs with rock on coin just small edge stickin out used stock coil now also have 10 inch magnum but not yet awed by it jurys still out on it but do like my 505 many good finds 1877 seated liberty quater from comstock load had me happy dancing:detecting:

I only say 5 inches because that is all that I have found so far, I'm pretty sure it can do at least 6 to 7 inches. I will sometimes get a good signal both ways then it drops, and I can't get it the depth indicator will say 8 inches, then it will come back and then drops again, I don't know if its junk or something good just out of reach of the detector. I have dug a few of these hits but can never find them when I start to dig, so I don't know whats up with that. Maybe I will get luck one day with one of those hits and get a nice silver coin out of it. thanks for the responses.

"got a mercury dime 9inchs with rock on coin just small edge stickin out used stock coil" now what kind of a signal did you get, was it solid or was it good then bad, I have noticed that when i swing "air test" over a silver dime it get a good signal both ways and then on the last swing I get a quick nickel tone, after the last swing. So when I get those I dig but haven't turned anything up as of yet. thanks for your input.

Nice finds, I followed a street and sidewalk tear out this year myself with the 505, I sent it in to get tuned up. They said the gave me a new 8" coil, tuned it up, and replaced the button's on the front. So I am just waiting for it to get back should be here in the next day or two. My son takes it over when we have it. I did pick up a Tesoro Silver Umax and I have to tell you that it is one bad a** machine. I have found so much silver with it, it almost makes me sick. I know when I go out that I am going to find silver with it, it's like it's almost not even fun. LOL It's beating the ace 250 in my book. Just thought I would let you in on my silver secret. LOL

HI That's great, can you let me in on any Gold Secrets? I'm new at the gold thing & new here to but really like this site Thanks Jim

I regularly dig up clad dimes (as well as coppers & quarters) down at 6" or more, Though most are within the top 4". I skip most zinc pennies now that I use the 505 which tells the difference.. This 505 is a Silver Loving machine as well!! I have found 4 sterling silver rings but not much luck with pre 64 coins?? Just don't seem to be around these parts.. I do find that DISC mode with as little Disc knob as you can will get deeper reads but a lot more false or trash noise... I also suggest that you get or make a coil cover a SLIDE the coil on the ground.! The closer it is, the better the signal! I made one for my 8" coil from an old plastic salad bowl bottom & for my 4" I used the bottom of a plastic jar. I attach them with 'ZipStrips' along the edge of the coil through holes drilled in the edge of the 'cover'. 4 is enough... I also would LOVE to hear if anyone has tips on getting the 505 to find gold! Any tips? DOC
