How can you tell when you have a deep iffy coin , or deep trash ? Im getting readings that sound high , stay high , the crosshairs bounce a bit but stay in upper right .......but cant find anything ?!?! The signals are sounding squiggly , but usually hit at least one way from a 90 degree angle . any help is appreciated .

I have the same problem at times. Also, how much depth am I losing lowering the sensitivity 16-18 just to get a somewhat consistent threshold in trashy areas? Thanks

Hi Kelly,
At one old spot last year I had to lower my
sensitivity level to 15 manual in order to keep
a good threshold, must have been allot of iron
in the ground, anyway I got a weak signal that
I was finally able to pinpoint that turned out
to be an 1875 seated dime at 6 inches.
So I don't think you need to crank it all the
way up to get depth.

I think you need an electronic probe! Example.. the SunRay Probe and the Periscope and the Tinytec are three that I have used successfully. Many times the coin is deeper than you can imagine and the Explorer might lose the signal when a lot of dirt has been remvoved from the coil. Also if the coin is at a 45 degree angle, the pin point will not be as accurate and the coin will be at the side of the hole. Also the Explorer has trouble finding coins in the loose dirt pulled out of the hole. Raise the coil 5 inches above the dirt and the Explorer will find the coin.
Good Luck my friend..

I have found that 90% of the good deep signals I can't find are either an on edge coin or a nail/wire radial to the hole. After digging several inches past the indicated depth I use a pin pointer to scan the sides and expand the the hole till I find It.
Believe it or not an iron nail or wire will often sound and look good from more than one direction.I anxiously await my X-1 probe which I hope will greatly speed the locating and/or IDing of these !%#$^@ nails.Maybe even tell me to go deeper yet on that other 10%!
