Deep tech Rg1000 and Rufus Jupiter....

I picked used versions of both of these European detectors recently. The Jupiter will be hre in a week.

The Deep tech I picked up from AMC Javelin who lives a bit north of me in Maine. Been out a few times with the Deep tech so far but have been busy with a new grandchild lately. Initial impressions are similar to what has been stated previously here. Above average depth and better two tone id on deeper targets than most machines I used. Not going to blow away the top machines but seems to run close....we will see how this spring goes.

The Jupiter I picked up for two reasons. Bored curiousity always is a factor....but more so it has a couple features I like but cannot get accept in high end machines. The three main features I wanted was...mixed mode ( unfortunately not stereo though)...more so the ability to assign tones to specific VDI numbers and last and as important an adjustable filters setting.

Not that I expect it to perform miracles just that it gets some features I like in a machine that does not run $1300.00 or more. There are a few places that are trashy where I like to assign a tone to iro, one to foil and the targets above foil are all the same. Other sites I will break it down a bot further for other problematic trash. Some fields are good relic fields but have way too much trash of a specific type to dig these targets. usually on a 3 or 4 tom=ne machine they targets will also have the same tone as other good atrgets that have a higher or lower VDI but still give the same tone. I do not like staring at a meter so having to constantly look to see the VDI gets annoying.

Plus it has very good recovery rate in trash. Seems to be close to a Goldbug or Omega ( almost) which I need....but with again a user determined tone to VDI ability.

I don't need all the other settings in say a V3i ( I like the v3i just that I fiddle too much with it)......but also need some adjustability that lower machines don't have.

So I may post some results on the Jupiter as I use it.....as long as the threads don't break down into arguing. i do not expect it as a detector to outperform anything else....just for me it has, on paper, adjustments i want but can't get in it's price range used.

Hi Scott,i think you may be surprised by the performance of the rutus....they are gaining a good reputation on iron laden european sites searching for small hammered coins.Look forward to hearing your results.

Nothing like the Deus for the kind of hunting we do. I also would like feedback on the Rutus.

Yah..... daddy no longer has $1900.00 to spend on a detector. Even if I had the money I find that, for me, that amount of money is foolish to spend on this hobby when there are other more pressing issues around. Although I also do not want to imply that i think it is foolish for another person to buy one...far from it...!!! I had a hard enough time swallowing the money for a V3 and that was 400 less.

I find that at the near 2000 dollar level there is no practical way any detector would impress me to such a level that i would feel justified dropping that much money.

Actually the last detector that I dropped that significant amount of cash on was the Spectrum XLT when it was first launched. Back in 92 or so it was $1000.00 unit and was way above the price of any other detector...but....it had features that were at the time just so far above anything else and performed so far above anything else for a while that the money was justified. Back in 92 or so a grand is probably similar to 2 grand today.

Plus technology advancements are not driving the cost of detectors down as it should.....they keep rising. Heck i can buy a 52 Plasma TV for under a grand on sale when 7 years ago it was as much as a good used car.

Anyway, point being that I find myself far more impressed and satisfied with the upper mid level detector advancements. the Gold Bug Pro is a perfect example. I was the first to get one and from day one I was impressed. It was not going to blow away a top unit in depth but it blew them away in target seperation. So....a $500.00 investment well spent.

What I like, on paper, with the Rutus is it has features I NEED...not want...NEED in order to allow me to use it on a variety of locations and hunting styles. Of course...it may turn out to be a poop in real life....but again I have fallen into a guinea pig frame of mind...but at $550..I am willing to be a pig. Many top detectors have nice features certainly, but too many I don't need....sure a polar plot is nice but it never made me dig or not dig. it was just a cool feature. I dig by tone and if it has a VDI by VDI reactions....the rest is fluff ( to me). Now I like fluff..just not when it costs me hundreds and hundreds

The features I NEED on the Rutus are the variable filters, mixed mode and programmable tone to VDI....plus a few other features that are fairly standard but NOT in a sub $1000.00 unit. Too many sub $1000.00 units are on the "canned mode" variety. Meaning their features are mostly canned with limited variability or menu options.

Then again it could be a dud. Atleast though someone was thinking of usefull features to supply in a menu driven detector in the sub $1000.00 market. It won't out depth an F75 or T2...but it will have features that I can adjust to adapt to locations i just can't enjoy using the F75 on.....as an example. Most sub $1000.00 multi tone metered machines just have too limited of adjustments in the areas that help make them multi adaptable. Outside of disc level, GB, thresh and chossing 1,2 or 3 tones..what else is there they leave for useful adjustments nowadays

I do enjoy reading your posts on the Deus...wish it was 500 less and i would try one but...too rich for my aging blood!!!! You know I deeply respect your evaluations of any detector and your impressions on the Deus I love. Sorry to see it is already too hot fown your way. Now I have to wait till fall for more posts. Maybe in a year when used ones come available for a few hundred less i will try one then...:)

Will post some videos of it in actual relic hunting applications as the spring progresses...air tests are worthless...wish people would stop filling Utube with air tests.

That is what I am using it for....trashy areas..iron or in many cases...tin from old roofs. that stuff gets spread all over a field when the house gets torn down and it sits right in the mid tone range. I have to keep looking at the meter on a unit like an f75 to see if it in the VDI of the tin or outside in the button range but same tone range.

Either way it will be fun to try it out....it is different enough to what we have here that the newness of it should keep me interested.....for a few weeks atleast....:)

Hi Scott,
I have been watching the Rutus for the same reasons. I'll be looking forward to hearing your assessment.

Been having hard time finding a online manual for one, too. If you ever get any extra energy and scan it I'd like to see it.

I will sacn it....and you can't find the manual anywhere.. searchd for 3 hours or more.

I just went and bought a nice little Sony HD camcorder for videos....well for this and my new grandaughter..:)

I am going to take it to some old colonial celar holes and use it there and video how it works. Enough of this planted target stuff or air tests. They are nice to see how it works initially but I want to see ho it works in trash and relic hunting. See where it fits best.

Although they say TV adds 20 lbs to you...don't think I can afford anymore weight so... will keep my large arse out of the screen shots.
