Me and another friend of mine went to some old cellar holes today hoping to find some coins but nothing but i found a huge ox knob i think thats what it is? and some old bullets the thing wa about 7" deep and on end, sounded real good thought i had a large cent at first but this popped instead.
Nice relic!
On another note.....looking at your name "amcjavelin", makes me think of the 1971 Javelin SST that I had back in the eightie's. Had a 304 though. Not too exciting but it looked good.....lol!
I agree with "Craig" , your piece is the protective/decorative end fitted on the end of a wooden Hame.
Not sure if Hame is considered a pair,or if it's "Hames".
Anyway,a pair of these went around a horse's neck; I guess over top of the leather "horse collar".
Do a google search and you should find some photos of Hames.
yep, i had found out on other forums what it was, wished i had the matching one to go with it, found a collector will be going to sight again, is on vid on youtube if interested type in travelinjavelin and check it out!
Thats a great find. I've always heard them called harness hames. Went on horse collars and other similar harness. Look on the Shorpy old photo site and check out the old horse and the civil war pics.I also like looking at the old car pics.
