dug this button in newport r.i. down about 10 inches rang in at 12 45 the back says scovills waterbury any ideas if any value,,,thanks everyone and ....hh
 
From relicman's site, which agrees with other backmark dating information, Scovills * Waterbury is pre 1850. I notice that there appears to be some letters between Scovills and Waterbury, and that could narrow down the date range. Scovills * Waterbury alone is pre-1840 Scovills & Co. * Waterbury is 1840-1850

This dating range concurs also with the front of the button.....
Earlier US Navy buttons worn prior to the Civil War, made from the 1830
