Deep Iron

Simple. Find another hobby.:heh:

Seriously, deep iron can fool you depending on the size and shape. No detector can ignore it all. Just listen to what you are hearing and try to remember those tones that come from the kinds of iron you don't want. But remember, if you don't dig iron you may be leaving goodies with it.

Seems the Makro rings good on deep iron more then other detectors I have used and currently use. I realize its part of the hobby digging deep iron as I have been at it for 20 years with a lot of good finds. Just looking for some tips that might help with the Racer, I guess I should have given more detail.

I would switch to all metal threshold and if you get a long drawn out signal its probably Iron . I know the bigger flat Iron can sound real good , and you may see if you get a low tone off the edge.

How long have you had the Racer? At first I dug a lot of iron big and small with the Racer then it all clicked and now I can tell a rusty bottle cap from a good target. I can't explain it but it's in the sound, or mix of sounds they produce. I still dig other types of iron but I think this next year I will be able to figure those signals out too.

I'm not one to over complicate things with formulas, stats, or the like. I learn by doing.

I love deep iron and even overload iron hits, you can find guns, locks, axe heads, shovels, tools, old keys. And back east I dig all iron and most of it in the gold country:sadwalk:

U should check out the book mastering the makro racer by Clive clynick he goes over methods of telling deep iron from deep non-ferrous very good read

He sent me a book and asked me to give him some thoughts but iron is tricky and even no you can hear the different tone or buzz you will leave behind some cool stuff if you trust your ears..for me if you are relic hunting you just have to dig most targets

Headphones can make a difference. When I switched from pro golds to white's promaster's it increased the audio separation for my hearing. Just a thought.
