Hello everyone i am not Happy about my results with those Deep iron readings  thay sound so good how in the heck do you tell if it is deep iron or a deep good Target befor you dig ?? It seem everytime i hit a good deep signal it turns out too be iron is there a way of telling for sure? Don't get me wrong i love my AT-PRO but i thought iron was gone forever!! lol believe me my AT-PRO see most of it but why not the deep BIG iron? There must be a scienific reason. Thanxs SAS

Hi,, What is the average size of the iron objects that you are having problems with or are giving you positive signals????.....JJ

Hi SAS, In my opinion there isn't a machine on the planet that will totally get rid of iron there will always be some that will sneak through, and I guess there could be a number of reasons why. The question is how much iron are you digging compared to other machines you have used? For me I have dug iron with every machine I've ever used, but with the ATP I would have to say I do dig considerably less of it, so the proportional audio is definitely doing it's job of identifying a very large percentage of it. This probably doesn't answer your question, basically just my observations.

Large deep iron is a bugger and will always sound like a good target and this applies to most modern day detectors.

What I do is set the A T Pro Iron Disc to 35 with Iron Audio ON swing over the target again and you should get a

Low - High -Low response indicating that the target is iron. ( page 29 owners manual ) having said that I still get fooled

some of the time, but like Butch, I am digging less iron useing the A T Pro.

Try using pro zero with iron at 00 and iron audio off. I'm finding coins in very iron infested sites. What has helped me most is using short slow swings and if I think I have something good mixed in I go 90 degrees and work around the target. Often a coin may only sound off with a 1 inch wiggle of the coil at one angle, especially if big iron is over the target.

I am saying iron such as big 3 or 4 inch bolts for farm use and 3 or 4 pieces of plows tines ect like that jimmyjiver.and thay are positive signals high 80's.

ok, all of you have really put some light too this iron issue but you are all right as far as digging less iron with the AT-PRO but the small iron always seems too get IDed correctly but should'nt bigger iron do the same since it is bigger? easier too see? Maybe its do too the mass of it? I wish Garrett techs would come in here and explain it in more scientific terms?

[size=large]ya don't want the techies to put it in tech terms. ya want to understand what they said when their done so you want them to put it in terms we all can inderstand. and i don't want to push button #3 for translatation.

Leslie & Ratney are correct. All VLF machines can get fooled by iron to varying degrees. Some are better than others. Even the vaunted, mega expensive E-Trac/V3 machines. The best thing is to hone your technique to offset the amount of deep iron you dig. May not be the answer you like, but deep large iron is just one of those detecting facts of life, like not being able to bypass aluminum pulltabs when searching for gold jewelry.
