deep for the money

Hello everyone, i want an f 70 but its not in my budget right know. Also i would like a new machine, what do you think is the deepest coin detector i can get for 450 dollars? I have a bounty hunter land ranger pro and a platinum would like a detector that can go a little deeper. Thanks

Tesoro Vaquero for 432 bucks. Lifetime warranty and super deep.

Thanks for the ideas guys! Overnight heres what happened o found a very nice used tec omega 8000 for 320 shipped, so its a done deal what do you all think of that one?

Great coin hunter, but based on the same platform as the Platinum so may or may not be any deeper. For depth, a used Explorer or Fisher CZ.

That was a great deal on a very capable unit. The Omega will surprise you with it's performance, once learned. They are a real sleeper that don't get the respect they deserve.

Good hunting...

Your going to like it a LOT! and I believe I seen the listing for the one you are getting.
Hint! don't get off on the wrong foot with the Omega, many people think they have to run a detector at MAX sensitivity but starting out with the Omega its best to keep it at the 65-70 range especially if it has the 11" DD coil, in average soil it should get good depth at that range.
Another good point about the Omega is as simple as it seem to run don't think its not a power house of a detector, it is!

I think you got a hell of a deal! What coil did it come with? If you got the 11"dd on that stick, you REALLY got a hell of a deal! Even so, that rig ought to do you right no matter what...like Mark said, run it soft for a bit and learn what it is saying to you...that was a great find and buy there for that money, well done Farmer!...

You can get a used F70 for $450. One with more than 1 coil even.
When they turn up, a lot of people seem to hang on to the F70.

Mud, I'm 99% certain that the one he is getting is coming with an 11" DD coil.

Here is the deal I got on my F70.
$370.00 used! (with the 10" concentric coil)
I had the seller send it to Fisher for service, things like a new face decal, new grip, and a check up and they replaced the coil connector and a new screen cover. That cost was $97.70 (shipping was included)
Round that up to $100.00 and the deal is up to $470.00.
Then add the cost of a near new condition 11" DD coil for a $100.00 plus and my F70 package wasn't a give away, but it is a VERY nice unit!!! and fresh out of the Fisher service department.

I could see the title poster willing to go $450.00 for new, but going $320.00 for a nice used Omega with the 11" DD coil that will replace both of his Bounty Hunter's and he should be able to sell both the BH and pocket a fair amount of change from the turn around.

Congratulations Farmer! You got a very capable detector for an excellent price!

Good price for that Omega 8000...Tabman continues to have great success recently around here with Wheats, silver and more - check out his posts in the Teknetics forum! I think you have a winner though!

I wish some of you guys were in NM so i could learn some hands on from you. I read about how well others do but i keep coming up short. I have some great areas to hunt, around here ther are very few people who detect. I only know one who is serious. Hh all

From area to area the trend for treasure hunters change. Like around here there isn't a LOT of people who metal detect, although I've ran into a few in the past three or four years. BUT! in the 80's and 90's they were everywhere, spring in the city parks, court house lawns, and school yard had so many people metal detecting that at a distance it looked more like honey bees in a bloomed out clover field!
They're were detecting clubs with monthly park meetings,
They're were lots of places to locally shop for detectors, but now I don't know of any detector shops around! on a very rare occasion I'll see one or two people hunting the parks, never see anybody hunting the court house lawns, the only schools to hunt are the old closed down ones, or ones that a church has moved into.
Now I've seen a lot of post where Tabman is bringing in a fair amount of silver and pretty regularly too. I would say that he has a lot of experience going for him, but I also tend to think that he has found some really good hunting spots that may not be virgin, but on the other hand they've not been hunted to death either.
On the Fisher F-series forum we have a newbie swinging an F70 somewhere in Kentucky who has been finding silver right and left!, so kick out the 30 years experience he's landed some near virgin turf!!! (I'm tempted to invade his turf, he can't be that far away LoL)
When I started out metal detecting I thought "Oh Boy, I know all these great places where as kids we hung out to metal detect" well, not so good!! yea, in theory it was good sound thinking, but the actual return was pretty much a big (O).

They are still some good hunting spots around, but in most places they're fewer than what a lot of people think. The best thing I could suggest is to, (for older silver coins)
Dig in and sample some sites!
Look for some Wheat cents, (or even those beaver tail pull & toss tabs) that helps to date an area.
Now for clad,
Check out the ball fields, especially the parking area's and around the concessions area, sidelines at the football and soccer fields.
Tot lots and fair grounds.

When you're looking at depth it's not which brand but which coil. However, some brands have poor coil options regarding depth so you need to find which brand has medium/big coil options.
