Deep & Fast settings

It is personal preference... I prefer Deep Off, Fast On when looking for really deep items.

Fast On let's my machine react better to items closer together when the quantity of targets below the coil is thick.
But the audio you hear for really deep items could be a little different than what you may be used to if you don't use Fast On. I recommend testing if possible.

Good luck

Yep I did a lot of testing on this over last five years, my opinion is best sound and readings on screen for deep items are produced by using fast ON, and deep OFF

Excellent info.................... & my opinion also!

I agree with all the above statements. I will add that when you detect a really deep target, you may get a thump vs a beep. Once I clean out an area, I then always go back in TTF and listen for the thumps. With the 11" pro coil I pulled a LC at 14 - 15" in a worked out area. Your numbers will be way off too. This has proven true time and time again CW Relic Hunting. DEEP on.....no bullets....DEEP off FAST on....Bullets.
Hope this helps.

OK, i'm gonna take a somewhat unpopular position here.
In an area that i know that has 10+ inch deep coins with moderate trash, i use Deep-ON, Fast-OFF and sweep slower than normal. Deep-ON will amplify faint target signals and leave the shallow and moderate target signals as is with no signal amplification. This setting seems to give the best deep target indications which has found many 11 to 14 inch deep coins albeit with goofy but yet 2-way conductive IDs. The proof is in the 'deep' pudding for me!

In an area where targets are not expected to be deeper than 10 inches, i'll start out by using Deep-OFF, Fast-ON and take it from there.

I find that one or the other on (but NOT BOTH) works best...Seems that when both are on, the detector does not see as deep, and the numbers and tones get skewed WAY too much for my liking...Also I have found it affects pinpointing as well...Most times I run FAST ON, DEEP OFF...I agree with the TTF to find the deep thunkers after you have cleaned out an area...

if you run volume gain at 28 or 29, deep signals will be amplified, WITHOUT using deep ON

You're right, Volume Gain and Deep-on can have similar end results depending on where the Volume Gain is set and one's personal hunting style. Thats whats great about eTRAC flexibility.
With the the Volume Gain set that high all targets shallow, medium depth and deep depth will have similar audio intensities.
In certain areas i prefer to have some target volume differential not unlike some other detectors but with the added benefit of Deep-on amping up the real deep one's. Deep-on allows a strong audio response for deep targets, if the depth indicator is bottomed out along with a conductive indication, that screams dig.

My take on using a high Volume Gain 'with' Deep-on is useless as the high gain setting will also amp up weak signals but worse is the extra Deep-on filtering which is not needed with that scenario. A high Volume Gain should be used with Deep-off IMO.

I use a much lower Volume Gain setting when enabling Deep-On along with 4TF or MTF usually in areas with a lot of trash and deep keepers which allows hunting more by audio rather than keeping the eyes glued to the display. As with any setting, that depth indication is the final clue as to dig or not.

It all boils down to personal preferance. What works for one might not work that well for another.
Over the years, this Deep-on setting has found me a lot of 10+ inch coins which is typical in most of the hunted out parks around here and as they say:
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Thanks for all the feedback, have been pulling stuff out of the local football field that I thought was dead. Can't wait to start hitting some of these Cincinnati parks to see if there's any more goodies hiding out in the open areas. Tom

Seldom use Fast On, Deep off. I use Andys setting a lot using Deep On and Fast Off, does well for me....so

I would use what you like best after giving both a shot. My approach is slower than most, maybe that's why my setting do so well, GH & HH

I would suggest you find what you believe to be a deep coin in the wild and then try Deep = ON and Deep = OFF then Fast = ON and Fast = OFF and all the different possibilities and see for yourself. Also vary your swing speed on each as it will make a difference. I personally ended up with both OFF because the target ID seemed more accurate with less filtering. I'm a cherry picker and prefer a more accurate target ID than anything else.
