Deep and/or Fast

Been using my explorer for about six weeks now, and I really like it. I am running Iron Mask -10 (thanks Ric), recovery mode deep, sens 20 to 28 depending on conditions. And no other discrimination. The audio in conjunction with the smart screen tell you alot and I am pretty confident as to what I'm about to dig (or not dig)
Here are my questions:
What exactly does fast do on the recovery mode. What exactly does deep do? Can you run deep and fast.
What are advantages and disadvantages to each mode or running both together ? Thanks George
