Dectecting in Panama (the country) - has anyone done it?

Heading to a beach resort for a 2 week vacation soon - would like to try out my newly acquired X 70 on the beach but I am not sure if it OK to use one down there - any info would be appreciated.
 
We were on the coast outside Panama City. Sand was quite mineralized, and lots of pull tabs. We found out the resorts we walked to (about two miles) were only about 5 years old. We were chased off when we got too high up on the beach, near the beach chairs.. otherwise, no problem. They DID look at our luggage when we were leaving. It was on the gateway at the door to the plane, and my husband was paged to go to the desk. When he told them what it was, ... no problem. We found the usual zinc pennies, and some Panama coins, no gold, one thoroughly thrashed watch. Couldn't get too far out into the water, as there was a four foot dropoff. Good Luck
