Decisions, Decisions Need Help

Hi everyone I have a problem deciding which detector to buy.
Back in Aug I was diagnosed with diabetes and I'm not much on just getting out walking for exercise and had been wanting a metal detector for several years.
So I thought this might help to get me out more and didn't know anything about metal detectors at all but I didn't want a real expensive one but nothing to cheap either because I wanted to give this hobby a fair chance.
I ended up with a bounty hunter sharpshooter 2 and have really enjoyed it the last few months other words what can I say I'm hooked. lol
Now I'm not going to knock the bounty hunter it's been mighty good to me and I intend to keep it for friends or anyone wanting to go with me to use but I'm ready to upgrade to something that can widen my possibilities.
Three detectors caught my interest and I been doing all the research I can on them.
First was the titan by First Texas (bounty hunter) but after searching several weeks I have decided against it due to the fact I think the next two in mind will serve me better for my wants and needs in my area.
Second and third was the Whites MXT and the Matrix M6 I like all the features these 2 detectors has to offer and have read and read about them and have decided it will be one of the two but having a hard time deciding which would best suit me.
The area I live is not known for gold nuggets so the prospecting mode in the MXT is not an issue with me.
I live in the western part of Tennessee about 50 miles north of Shiloh Park so there is a good chance to find civil war relics in this area.
Some of the parks I hunt is pretty trashy and seems they've never been detected because I have found tons of pull tabs and several $ in clad coins so I need a detector that don't go haywire in trashy areas.
So here's what's making the decision so hard for me.
From what I've seen both of these detectors is top notch and seems ones that has either of them is very happy with their performance.
But I have seen several say the MXT is a very noisy detector mostly in trashy areas and that's kinda got me wondering because I don't want to get something that I would be unhappy with.
It seems the biggest difference or the best I can see between the coin/jewelry and relic mode on the MXT would be the target ID showing coin, pull tabs, or in relic mode showing buttons, bullets and such where the M6 don't have these features which I don't mind because if I'm relic hunting I'll dig most everything that sounds good anyways.
I'm not familiar with a threshhold and don't know that it would even benefit me in this area so would I be just as well off buying the M6 or would I benefit any more by getting the MXT?
Thank you and any help at all would be appreciated.

I truly think the MXT would be the better of the two. And living in Tennessee you do live close to gold bearing areas, so the prospecting mode would come in handy. And I personally think the MXT will out hunt the M6 in the relic mode also. The only way the M6 can compete with the MXT is in the coin mode. Just my opinion........:whites:.......

Also people that say the MXT is to noisy ether have the detectors adjustments to high or have the wrong coil for soil condition, I have never had my MXT to noisy because I now how to use the little knobs on the left side of the machine, and I have a coil for every situation.....

I think Bobs given you a great bit of advice. The MXT is a great machine for relics as 3 of my friends have them and use them for fur trade and copper culture hunts which I love too. They also hunt relics back east a lot and the MXT does great things for them. Coins etc are not a problem. Bob also knows about the gold. I have a new MXT thanks to him and have only had a chance to putter around in my yard as freeze up got the best of me but it has pulled up stuff my other detectors have not been able to find. It's a 3 in one machine and I'm tickled pink with mine, just need the frost and cold to go away. By the way, I couldn't wait and booked a flight to California. Shipped my MXT ahead and am looking forward to the next couple of weeks while things are still froze up back here in the north country. This will serve to scratch my itch.

Thanks Bob, you said it all. I 100% agree with you! I wouldn't part with my MXT for any other. HH, Nancy

Rick, you can find placer gold in: Blount County, Monroe County, and in Polk County. The Tennessee Gold Belt lies almost entirely within the Cherokee National Forest.

You also have some lost treasure you can research in the following county's:
Morgan County, Perry County, Sevier County, Steward County, and Wayne County.

Battlefields and Forts in:
Monroe County, Rutherford County, Steward County, Sullivan County, and Williamson County.

Good Luck on which ever Detector you buy, and you live in a state with all kinds of detecting opportunities.....

But I have seen several say the MXT is a very noisy detector mostly in trashy areas and that's kinda got me wondering because I don't want to get something that I would be unhappy with

Let me answer two of your questions. The noise first. The M6 had the threshold backed off about 20% at the factory to make it silent search. This probably was done for people who complained about the noise. You can turn the threshold down on the MXT until you just don't hear it and you will be the same as the M6. If you are careful and don't turn it down too much you won't loose too much depth. Threshold machines have a slight advantage on the silent search machines on the deepest targets.

I never pay attention to the icons anyway. The numbers are what count. A dime if it reads 80 will read 80 in all the modes. So if a button read 50 on an MXT it would read 50 in C/J, relic, or prospecting. It would still read 50 on the M6. So you can still relic hunt with the M6 and do very well. Now with that said if you what to relic hunt I'd still opt fot the MXT because the threshold and relic mode is worth the $100 and the prospecting mode is there if you need it.

If you hunt coins most of the time or have owned a silent search machine like the Classics, the M6 with its tones might be a good way to go. Remember both machines are for all purposes the same inside with the same great ground tracking.

Bob is right on,You live in an area where a lot of us would like to be. For an extra $100 you get three detector instead of one. If you talk to any relic hunters an ask them on what to get ,the MXT will be in the mix and not the M6. Look at Hillbilly Bob's past post an see the gold he has found with it. The MXT is just one killer machine. Now the M6 is also a great machine but it is limited on what it can do. You need to compare the two and decide on the type of hunting you want to do then go from there. Good luck and HH Chappy.

My opinion - both good, but the MXT is more versatile. As mentioned earlier, the noise issue isn't a big thing if the machine is set properly. Personally, I like a light threshold hum in the background and it nulls out when the coil goes over discriminated targets letting you know it just crossed metal should you decide to check it out.

Wow, Id like to thank Bob and all of you very much on the replies you have been most helpful.
Bob, The places you mentioned is in the middle and east part of the state I don't get there very often but hey I may start doing some research and plan a few vacations or weekends in them areas.
The mxt was actually the one that caught my eye first after the titan but was afraid of the noise and then saw the m6 was like the little brother without the noise and at the moment I'm mostly detecting the parks and didn't want to get run out even though I stay away from areas that being used at the time I'm there so not to make anyone feel uneasy about my presents.
I have done some research on the area I live and seems it was booming more back in the mid to late 1800's than it is now because they had several stores, a stagecoach stop with stables, and 3 schools and now it's just a little community with only 1 store no schools or anything like then.
Thanks again to everyone I have decided to go ahead and get the mxt I'm just waiting on a check to come in which should be within a few weeks so I should have it and be swinging all over the place come spring time and good weather.
I've already downloaded all 5 videos today off whites website on the mxt and the manual so when I do get it I'll be ready and not have to spend all my time learning.
Also want to say this is the best forum I have seen and being new to the hobby and no clubs in this area the nearest is like 90 miles to Memphis I might have gave up but the reading here gave me more knowledge of it than I could have learned on my own in a couple years and even though I've mostly found pocket change and a few hot wheels cars I'm having a great time every time I go out swinging.
Oh I did find a ladies watch about 3 inches in the park was gold colored and man my heart did speed up for awhile I found out later it wasn't worth anything but it was exciting when I flipped it up out of the ground all I use in the park is a flat dull screw driver and have gotten pretty good with it.
I'll be checking back and maybe one day have something good to share with everyone.

That's a good choice Rick, You will enjoy owning the MXT.......:clapping:

As a fellow diabetic, routine exercise will certainly help maintain your A1C. I had a White's goldmaster/vsat for better than 15 years and, after a great deal of research, I sold my old detector on eBay and bought a new MXT through Kellyco. I am sold on the MXT. It is the greatest detector that I have ever seen and it is easy to use with great flexibility. Something that folks do not mention that the MXT will excel at is with gold chains. Many very expensive machines will not pick up gold chain. The learning curve on the MXT is a few hours rather than weeks. The start up time is 10 seconds and search. I have found my last love!

the m6 will be quieter in the trash!..it also has 7 tones to help distinguish between good and bad targets!..

(h.h!
j.t.

Put the MXT in the relic mode and WOW!!! you have the same tones............

Slam dunk on the MXT. Going to check one out tomorrow at a sidewalk tear up. Tested one during a mining expo trip and it absolutely loved finding chains. (Better than my DFX.) Wise choice and holds it's value.

I was diaganosed a few months ago with type II diabetes as well and use my MXT as a great excuse to get out there and get some excercise, not that I needed it, but it just gives me a little more incentive to get outside and do more walking. Believe me, after a day of up and downs, you'll feel it in your legs, back, arms and legs!

Yes sir I know what you mean, I hunt for a half a day and I am sore........:detecting:....... I guess we can't stay young forever.....
