Decisions, Decisions, Decisions.... a coil or not a coil??

Oh that is the question, I have been toiling over this site and many others trying to get some answers. Which coil should I buy???...Whites 6X10...10X12 SEF...or Whites new 10 inch D2 ??? Read and read and read....but you know its hard to find a committed answer on a coil and if that coil will work for you within reading one these sites???
I mean, you read a positive post one month. Then from the very same user you see it being sold a month later. What does one take from that?? (Goggle is your friend!) It is it that, most users really don't need more than the stock coil?? Does everyone get caught up in the next best thing?? Then decide differently??? Then there is the ringer, you can just tell, user is making super positive statements. I guess, in hopes to boost sales!!! Who knows. Oh and then try calling Kellco and speak with them about any other coil outside the Excelerator brand. You always seem to at the end of the conversation get pushed pushed their way.
I am not hard core hunter, I am just coin shooter that enjoys time outside and I am looking for a decent replacement or a coil that compliments the stock 950 coil for my MXT. I have good soil in my area, it's not trashy, as I figure 70 % or more of most users areas are. It just seems that everything you read seems to have a disclaimer attached or... A disgruntle post from someone who used a coil outside of it's intended use, then really discredits an actually good coil. Is there a good answer here? User reviews are the biggest source of information for the unknown. In this hobby getting a good product review and keeping it seems to be difficult. Is it just me?
Long avid reader of this site and enjoy this hobby very much. It's I can't seem to find the answer I am looking for on this one. You guys be good and really any positive, productive insight would be greatly appreciated.

Later guys, I must continue my search.

Hi KY, I live in Ky also, in Greenup Co. i hunt with the MXT also. I have the D2, 9.5, 8" ecel, 5.3 had the 6x10dd but traded it for the D2, 90% of the time i use the 5.3 coil. It gets good depth, lite, and get around rocks and trees nice. OH also have the 5" coil from whites, if i go around picnic tables it does grate to get those coins in and around all that trash. So you can see that you must make your own decisions, but try your coils and if you don,t like it sale it. Good Luck Dean

Since you have the 950, I would think that your best bet would be to go with a small coil for some trashy areas. You haven't found many yet, but that doesn't mean that you won't later. And like Flintstone said it will help you to get closer to metal poles and stakes, in fences or on playgrounds and such.

Got a Eclipse 4X6 for when I do, I am looking at larger coils as mention in the original post. Thanks for the feedback though.

That 5.3 is TOUGH to beat...We probably use one 85-90% of the time on both the MXT & 6000 Di Pro Sl...Even though I do have 3 coils for the MXT & 5 for the 6000.

I have the 18" Excelerator,5" DD EXcelerator , stock 12" , 4x6 , 6x10 , the coil that stays on the machine day to day is the 6x10, in trash I like the 4x6 better than the 5" EXcelerator as it offers more natural control swinging. Dan

I wouldnt want to be wihout my 5.3 coil. Enough said. HH, Nancy

Unless you have very mineralized ground, there probably would not be that much difference between your stock 950 and the D2. If you are moving up in size, the 10X12 DD might be a smart move for you, especially if you hunting grounds are fairly clean of trash. That is the coil I use most on my V3.

From my own experience I prefer the 6X10 for my most used "go to" coil followed by the 5.3. Larger coil I like the 12" spider. Works for me.
