deciding on mxt or gold bug 2

jipper

New member
hi all, I am looking for a good gold machine, I live in northern california and we have tailings everywhere, ghost towns, and history.
I am trying to decide wether I should get a mxt or goldbug2, a hunting buddy of mine and I are looking at the mxt, but also hear the
goldbug2 is a really good machine in this highly mineralized area.

basically my buddy can walk into his back yard and he is in good gold hunting territory, I have to drive about 50 miles.

I am new at this and would like a machine that is easy to operate (so is my buddy).

any thoughts or ideas would be helpful. thanks. curtis

I have used the Goldbug 2 and the GMT they both are very good gold machines and I've used the MXT in prospecting. If I were to buy one detector I would most certainly buy the MXT it offers very good gold detecting in the prospecting mode but also gives you the option to detect coins and relics. And when your out prospecting you will want to relic hunt some of the old sites you run into. And there are times you will want to look for coins around your neighborhood. I own both the GMT and the MXT, when I bought the GMT I was wanting to gold prospect and found allot of gold with it but I found I was limited to just prospecting. so I bought the MXT that gave me 3 detectors in one, I have found that the MXT is just as good a gold machine as the GMT and the Goldbug 2 plus when I'm not prospecting I can look for coins and such on the weekends. If I knew then what I knew now I would only bought the MXT.:whites::thumbup:

Also you will need the 6X10 DD coil for the high mineralized soils, MXT + 6X10 DD = GMT

Down here in Aus the Goldbug 2 was a bit of a let down. It couldn't handle most of our ground and the only way to run one in central Victoria's triangle region was to turn the sens down to just 50%, this in turn made it no better than an original Bug. Meaning the added sens of the Bug 2 was totally negated. That and no tracking made it a poor seller. Rarely see one apart from guys who specifically have one for working around quiet reef areas or tame ground. The MXT would and does leave it in its wake due to the tracking and sat control. Ground you would walk away from with a Bug 2 over here, you can work no probs with the MXT. Not knocking the Bug 2 technically just that high mineralisation is its kryptonite.

Have been to Ganes Creek Alaska for a total of 5 weeks, had both the Gold Bug 2 and the MXT, Best all round unit is the MXT with all the diff coils. Recon

I have had a MXT for years---It has the same circuit board as the GMT---This week end (labor day) I will be trying my newest detector Whites TDI in eastern Oregon---It is not made for coins but I have found out it is not to bad but you have to have Patience---I am hoping to get my first nugget---I would settle for a small 2 lb. nugget

You got that right, 2 lb nugget:clapping Good luck, and I hope you do find color:thumbup:
