I have been detecting for all of 4 months or so, but collected a nice bit of quarters, nickels and dimes. Not counting those numerous pennies in the other jar. I read on this site about using vinegar and salt. I do not know the proportions but took a simply lemonade jug and filled it with about a pint of the vinegar and about 2 tablespoons of common salt and in goes the silver clad. Learned to separate the pennies from the good stuff. Gave it about 5 minutes with the shake rattle and roll while watching the tube and then wash the coins with water. Next pat them dry and put them to bed.
Question: As the song goes they lost that loving feeling. and now its gone, gone, gone. How do you get back the luster say on the quarters?? The coins for the most part come out clean, but that dull color is there. Is there an alternative? I md at the beach as well as the parks. Some of the clad as you well know is black and lets not talk about the zinc pennies dug up half missing. Is there a better solution to the cleaning process?
On another note hit a tot park in my friends neighborhood and hit my first half dollar kennedy 1976 under 2 inches of chips. yepper. No one had mined the area so I could not stop digging for hours. Strangely enough, no jewelry to be found. Use my 6x10 and 5.3 eclipse newly purchased. Last week I hit a nice 14k men's white gold wedding band at the beach. It just makes my day to get out. The wife is beginning to get worried about this new hobby/obsession, but I have all of you out there supporting me in this adventure. Truly appreciate all the input this forum gives and Nancy as king of the nickels !! I need to upload a pic of all my rings that I have found with this mxt. It is a killer machine and I feel I purchased the best machine for the money. I get out about 4 times a week and when there is no computer work then out goes the detector. Thanks for any help about cleaning these clad coins.
