Dear Minelab - My CTX 3030 Is Broken

Dear Minelab,

I purchased my CTX 3030 in late June 2016. I have been using it at the beach in the water. My CTX is broken now. I am getting an error message saying USB connected. I am super careful with my machine. Moisture got into the USB port. Not water just moisture. It really upsets me that I spent 2400 dollars on a machine that is rated to 10 feet. You advertise this machine as all terrain and beach ready. It's the best machine I have ever used but you have a design problem.

I received this from your Company on how to fix my problem.

You can flush USB with fresh water, hit it with a cold hair dryer to dry it out then spray it with QRC QD contact cleaner (sold in electronic stores), wipe it out and spray with an anti corrosion spray sold in electrical and marine stores. The brand we use here is called "B'laster", .

If you want to help prevent it from happening again you can put a bead of silicone caulking around the cap after you have tightened it by hand. It is pliable and can be easily removed..I use a tube of GE 100% Silicone clear....

I did this exactly. It cost me 45 dollars to try this fix. It did not work. I am driving to KELLYCO tomorrow with my machine. You are aware of this problem. It is a design problem. People are afraid to take this machine in the water. Please take action and fix this problem like you did on the battery problem with the seal or do a recall and give us our money back. Thank you. By the way I have two of your Excal's and the CTX. I love all of them. Stand by your products and do the right thing.

Well at least they gave you a idea of how to try to fix it . To bad they don't know how to build a water proof ctx that's why my ctx is scared of water it will never see it . I said this a long time ago if it says water proof to 10 feet it should be not by putting band aids on the problem .

Then again if you bought back in 2012 you will not get any updates without paying again for them.

The ctx is a very poor design to keep waterproof they know it and I know it but do the people buying it know it . :veryangry: sube

Hate that for you.
Did you really pay 2400 for it?

Where is the $45 spent? The B'laster, QRC QD contact cleaner and a tube of silicone all combined are less than $20.00 ...

water proof to 10 ft is code for splash proof.

Tell that to my $130 Fitbit Charge HR which is only water resistant and I take it in the water with me everytime. Shower, beach, pool... Detecting both in and out of the water. Funny thing is, it has a charging port on the back of it that doesn't have a cover at all and I still never have a problem! I charge it every few days, connect it to my computer.... it gets beat up. Seems to me you should under promise and over deliver versus the other way around.

I was going to get a fitbit then I realized I had to do all the work so I didn't bother :buds:

but I 100% agree on the other part under/over

Just attach it to your dog or any child under the age of 12 and you don't have to worry about doing the work.
