DD vs. Concentric in the heat?

I remember reading in the past that a DD/Widescan coil cannot handle being in high temperatures as well as a concentric.

Assuming this is true, can Monte or any of the other knowledgeable people here elaborate on why?
 
Till now, I've never heard of that. I'd also like to see someone come back that knows (if it's true and why).

I remember reading that on a thread some time back and it stuck in my head.

But two dirt fishing gurus over on the Garrett forum, Bill Revis and John-Edmonton, both told me that it wasn't so.

I tried two brand new ones and they would get unstable after about ten minutes in the field.

Took me a long time to put two and two together as to what was going on. Only after reading up on building my own coils did I figure that one out. Coil would work fine for about ten minutes and then go crazy despite sensitivity adjustment. Turn the detector off and on and it's still going bonkers. Throw it in the car and drive to a new location and now it works fine again. Thinking maybe it was interference at the other spot until once again about ten minutes later it goes nuts. These coils also had a "mushy" feel to them in that they weren't completely filled with epoxy. You could push down on the coil's case and it would flex. I never saw that in a coil before, and the lack of being filled with epoxy probably was what was causing the windings to shift with slight temperture changes.

I see your quotes are from Nautilus users and THOSE coils are affected by temperature change! But those are the only ones that I know of. It is because of how Nautilus makes thier coils, they are not potted or sealed, but wound wires inside an air-filled enclosure. Heat and cooling will affect the windings (expansion/contraction) and that can through the tuning out of wack. If you have a Nauty machine, you have to re-tune it manually, if the conditions you are hunting in vary in temp. If I remember right, the manuals instructs you to retune your machine if the temp varies by 10 degrees or more, from when you last tuned it.

All of the other manufacturers pot or seal thier windings making them much more stabil.
