DD loop?

I have a X-50 and I know i can get a 7.5 KHz and 18.75KHz and the X-70 I know will also take a lower freq. but it dont say "DD"loops they are standard loops.

I looks like 4 different sizes, but, I think there will only be 3 concentric coils and maybe 4 DD. I think I read somewhere else that there were only going to 6, but, I can't find it at the moment.

If the picture is accurate, only the 9" coils will be concentric and the 8, 12 (from the looks in the picture) & hopefully, the smaller one, will all be DD. That would make 6 different coils! Not too bad! :chase:

other than the 10x5dd in 18khz.
We may not get a 5-6'' or an 11-12'', and if we do they might only be in the 18khz......they are saying they just do not know at this stage.

Personaly I want both the small and large DD in the 7.5khz so they will be interchangable with the 30 and 70. The 18khz coils are no good to me for the hunting I do, so I certainly hope the others are produced.
I got an inkling by the illistration in the manuals that all sizes will be made in at least the 7.5 and 18khz......maybe they will or maybe they wont.

I thought that Minelab, who know this forum is up and running and is read daily by them, would have made a public comment by now on wether the 'as advertised' coils would be made. At the very least the detector-given dealers/testers should have answered all of the posts concerning these coils at some stage, and asked minelab for direction.

I ......................like everyone else on this forum needs a smaller 5-6" coil for trashy areas.........
I think the majority of metal detector hobbyiests on this forum have tried different brands of machines and now are trying the XT-30,,,,,,,,50,,,,,,,,,,,or 70...........
I am sure that if other coils are not produced to satisfy customer needs........Most of us will move on to the next machine that comes out...........Whatever brand it is,,,,,Be it from the US ,,,,the UK,,,,,,,,,or Ausie......
There are those "Die-Hard" Minelab users........But I think in the case of the new X-terra...........there has been an influx of detectorists that .........Have NOT used Minelab machines before......And if things do not satisfy them............They will most likely switch back to a more familiar brand,,,and MOST likely will not come back to Minelab.............We shall see what Minelab thinks of us,,,,and we shall see if they care about Opinion Poles and REPEAT Customers......
Just my Opinion,,,,,,,,,,
But I DO think I am Right on this one....
P.S...........Ohhhh....and by the way..........The longer they wait to bring out new coils,,,expecially small coils that will work with the 30,,,,,,,,,50,,,,,,,,,,,,and 70,,,,the more X-Terra ,,,,,or for that matter NEW...Minelab customers they will potentialy lose.......We shall see..........But again.......I think I am RIGHT on this one.............. H.H.

The only way I could be happier with my Xterra's is when I get my hands on that small coil. It's a must have!!!!.
I need a dd but will settle for concentric....just as long as I get one. They will make a real good detector great.
They really should have been out by now and I cannot figure out why the small one was not sold as a choice directly with each machine.

I guess the push to get the detectors out and the matching then production of coils has proven a touch too rushed for Minelab, which has resulted in us being left in limbo.
To make it up they really should be letting us know what is going on.

I totally agree with you McNickle.
I've already got some feelers out and unless Minlab come to the party soon, then I'll be looking for a more versatile machine. The X-Terra's are a great machine, but they seriously need some more coils in at least the 7.5kHz, for maximum coverage of the series.

I believe Minelab is a little overwhelmed curently. My X-Terra 70 was back ordered for over a week. When I received my 70, the 3kHz coil is on back order indefinetely. I think that Minelab never expected such a huge response to this line of detectors. They are unable to keep up with dealers orders. Garrett is in the same boat with the Ace 150/250. The X-Terra line uses a completely new coil type than they have made before. I know that the 10x5 DD 18.75kHz is being advertised for sale in the UK already. That doesn't mean it is in stock. Perhaps they are making them and are stockpiling them so that when they are advertised in the US, they wil be able to save customers by actually having the product available. Perhaps they are waiting on patents to go through also. The competition in the industry is fierce, and I'm sure the other manufacturers are looking for any way to get a part of the huge sales that Minelab has had lately.
I don't believe they will lose any first time Minelab owners because they don't have a DD coil already available. I am a first time Minelab owner with the X-Terra 70. I have 2 coils and waiting on the 3kHz to come in. It will take at least 1 month per coil to get comfortable with it. After using only a concentric coil on the other detectors I've owned. I'm in no huge hurry to get the DD coil. I still have to learn the coils available currently. I have had a short time with my 70 and already I'm very impressed. I did as well with it as I did with my other detectors and that was in preset mode. I know that I bought a machine that is only in it's infancy. It will take time to get the other pictured coils available. I don't believe they are ready to release the technology to Sunray and other third party manufacturers to help speed up coil production. It's not a reason to speculate that Minelab is making a huge business mistake. I coulda bought a T-2 and had to send it back to get reprogrammed. How do you think that went over with first time buyers? They lost there machines for however long it took to fix.
All I ask is that we use this forum for what it's intended, sharing information with other users. Trying to use it to push a manufacturer only pushes users away who expect to enjoy there forum reading. If you bought an X-terra and are not pleased with it's operation or it's not doing the job you need it to do, then by all means sell it off and get the machine that works for you. I know plenty of folks that are having trouble getting there hands on one that would gladly purchase it. Look at the bright side. If you have the H,M, and L concentric coils already and own the X-terra 70, you have 3 different machines to use in your backyard alone and find things that each one might have missed. That should keep us all busy until the other coils are available.

Happy Hunting folks, metal detecting is still better than working!

.. there are a lot of jewellry hunters out there and an awful lot of nuggethunters. There's actually a rather large pool of people looking for a good multifunction gold detector and the DD HF coil would confer that ability. The HF concentric coil just doesn't cut the mustard in tough soil and the elliptical shape is preferred for prospecting. It also gives the separation of a small coil with the depth/coverage of a large one. Look at the success of the MXT. It took off big time 'cause of it's ability to both prospect and coin hunt. ..Willy.

Minelab
There is a lot of people interested in your machines. The X-Terra's are definitely one of the best machines going at the moment. If you are having trouble with supply, will you kindly let the people know. I'm not buying the story that you haven't made up your mind at this late stage of your development as to what coils your going to produce, your to focused a company to be that aimless. As we saw with the lead up to the release of the X-Terra70 a lot of conjecture, guessing and finally, a lot of anger when it was released. With any relationship, if you have poor communication between the involved parties, then there is conflict! In this situation, the relationship is between a detector company and it's clients, and potential clients. Is it your intention to continue harming this relationship with your clients by not communicating and keeping those potential clients informed as to what is going on.We don't mind, that you may be experiencing some teething problems with new products;in this case, coils, but for the sake of a healthy relationship could you please inform us as to what is going on?
Yours sincerely
Michael Evans.

Don't you think you would stand a lot better chance of getting a response from Minelab if you called or emailed your question directly to them? They have a phone number & a email address. I have communicated with Minelab via both of these formats and found them to be very gracious to tlk to and deal with.

I'm not to sure Minelab even monitors these forums, mustless respond to your post in an open forum. BUt who knows, they could, but if I were you, I would hedge my bet and call or email them personally.

Hi Motoramike
Argyle has already done that and gotten nowhere. There is a lot of unanswered conjecture going on on the forum, and for the sake of a healthy relationship for all on this forum, I've simply posed the question, so that we can all hear the answer from the horses mouth.Minelab is a Marketing driven company(my observations) and I know that they will see this post as a positive to address a shortfall in their P.R. department.
Thanks for the input.
Mick Evans.

I don't know who people are emailing, but, it wouldn't surprise me that the wrong people would be afraid to suggest something that they are unsure of. Be patient, just wait and see. Minelab will produce a smaller coil. Personally, I am glad they are taking their time developing the optional coils. They want them to be right, and so do I! Now, I'm off to the beach with my GT! Found a nice silver ring on Monday:)

Good to hear Plugger. Well done on the ring.Just Trying to address a perceived breakdown in communication. Don't want to see a repeat of the X70 situation that we had earlier. It had all the hallmarks.

Mick,

Even if Minelab brought out 100 extra coils some people would still bitch and moan.......some people just have to complain!
Give em a break......
