DD Excelerator 10

New member
Hi Everybody,

I am thinking about buying the MXT Pro and I hear the 12 inch coil is not so good for say parks with a lot of trash. I can get this DD Excelerator 10

Hello Riett . I don't have the excelerator coil but I do use a 10 inch Whites D2 coil and I will say that if its a very trashy park like most city parks are the ten inch coil doesn't work the best it usually takes a smaller coil like a 4x6 or a 5.3 coil to get thru the trash with any ease . Now if there's lite trash the ten inch does pretty good but not in heavy trashy area's . I do think the 10inch coil would serve as a better general use coil than the 12 inch unless your hunting open area's with low trash .

Thanks Harold.....This whole metal detecting stuff is quite confusing for the newbie like me. I see a lot of people love the whites 6x10 DD coil but that baby is over my budget for now.

I was almost convinced to buy the Omega 8000 but so many people like the MXT's.

Thanks again,

Bob

Yes it gets very confusing I agree with that . I also have a 6x10 coil but hardly ever use it , it is a very good coil and makes a great all around coil . I just like other coils better just my personal preference . I use a SEF 6x8 coil when I am not using the ten inch or 4x6 coils , I just like it better . I do not know about your 10 inch size coil but the D2 is very sensitive and won't work real well in area's where there is alot of electrical interference ..

Hello, I'm also new with the mxt pro. I just about gave up because I purchased the 10inch excelerator coil but I didn't. I purchased the 9.5 and the 5.3 and it all started getting better. It gets better every time I go out. Try the 9.5 and then go for the 5.3 you won't be sorry. Especially since you go to parks and trashy places like parks. Happy hunting

Texas37 ...so you did buy the 10inch excelerator coil and didn't like it?

Me and my buddy both did and we both almost sold them. Then we decided to buy the 9.5 and the 5.3 because we couldn't find any negative feedback on the mxt and I am now so glad we didn't sell them.DD excelerator coils gave us wrong vdi readings and they love bottlecaps.

Thanks for the info! I will take that coil off my wish list.

Well THAT was a close call....scares me to even think about that. Texas37 you did exactly the right thing by getting a smaller coil...but you've realized that already. rlett, good decision to wait on a larger coil for now...you'll work your way up to it and know when you're ready. I would invest in a high-quality pair of H.P's and/or pinpointer if you don't have them already. JMHO Good luck.

Texas37,,,,how do you like that MXT pro? How long have you had it and it is as good as you thought it would be?

Hello,
I only use the 10"DD and the 5.3". I use the 5.3" coil in trashy areas and the 10"DD in open areas. The 5.3" gives real good VDI's. The 10"DD is off a bit on VDI's but is great in open areas and I use it for relic hunting because it is so deep. I had the 6" x 10"DD but I sold it. Like Bearharold, I just never used it. Found the 5.3" to be a bit deeper. HH John

[size=large]i'm gathering info on the mxt and am interested in how the 6x8 sef bearharold mentioned does. how good is the depth, reaction to trashy places, bottle caps and say nickels?

I've had it for about 2 months now.Once I bought the 9.5 it just started getting better. I tried the 10 inch DD first and kept getting off vdi readings so I took that coil off.I absolutely am loving the mxt pro and think I made the right choice. The mxt edge book really helped me out,it is a must have.

Thanks Texas37,

Anyone tried the Omega 8000 against their MXT?

Hey guys I don't want to high jack your thread but if its ok I will answer the question about the 6x8 sef coil since this thread is about mxt coils .
I love my 6x8 I got it after using alot of the other coils first . First of all it is very lite weight and makes the MXT balance out real nice which was important to me cause I'm a old fart and the weight of the mxt was giving me trouble with my arms but problem was solved when I got the 6x8 sef coil . now to answer the questions asked .

Depth is real nice dug a Rosie at 8 inches and a wheat penny at 9 inches right after I got it , both had good signals with good VDI's . Now that's not normal depths for me as most places I hunt don't have many targets that deep but it will reach that deep if it needs too .

Trashy area's it does real well for a 8 inch coil i use it in moderate trashy area's do have to slow down a little in the trash but works real well there . The Sef coil is simuliar to the DD coil type of coil .

Bottle Caps it will pick up some caps but doesn't seem to be near as bad as my D2 coil does . The D2 loves them especially the old steel beer caps .

Nickels it picks the nickel up just fine . earlier in the summer I dug a 1929, 1939 , 1943 and a 1945 in a two week period in a park I had hunted on and off for three years . It does ok on about all nickels about normal I would say .

Trash its about normal on trash pull tabs and so forth .

I might say it is a really quiet running coil . I can run it in alot of places with emi that I can't run my D2 10 inch coil .

Hope this answers some of your questions , I have used this coils for a year on and off now ..

My 8 x 6 sef came today - if snows gone will be out 1st thing in the morning - if its as sensitive as the 10 x 12 I'll be happy - trash site to try that's also littered with iron nails - heres hoping!

I like my 10x12 sef, I use it a good portion of the time. there is a slight learning curve with it, I have had it for about 6 months it pin points right on, for
a bigger coil it separates well, I lift it off the ground,a bit to separate on some items, I have real high mineralized ground where I live, at first I got a lot of bottal caps
with it they usually come in some where around 84, they also sound different than a coin same with pull tabs, I try to get as much gain as possiable out of my mxt
and when pin pointing a bottal cap, my mxt will go bonkers, when it is on the surface or about an inch down, that dosent happen as much with coins,
I would like to get the eight inch sef I beleave it would be a good one for a lot of locations, I have the mxt that came with the 950 coil. good coil but not in the kind of ground
I detect, hope that was some help, you can,t go wrong with the whites dd coils, but the sef is a good buy.

I agree, that 9.5 used the right way is a killer
