DD Elliptical COIL

Has anyone ever tried these types of coils on their etrac? If so what was your opinion as I'm completely
in the dark about these types of coils. Is there a difference in depth compared to round DD coils? Any info would
be appreciated no matter how small

I'm a big fan of ellipticals as well as the SEF style coils which are essentially a form of an ellipse. The NEL sharpshooter and 4.5 x 7 Excellerator both produce really well on the etrac. Technically they shouldn't go quite as deep as a round coil of the same size as the largest dimension but raw depth is not my concern in my ground . They seem to separate better that round coils but it may be all in the head because the pointier shape just seems to mark the location more definitively,,,,same when pinpointing.
It's hard to beat the 11" procoil for overall performance but the ellipticals seem to wake up old spots for some reason. It goes without saying that they will get in tighter spots and closer to obstructions that a round coil which really shows up in weedy areas and totlots

I like the Pro coil Myself but would like a coil that has more or the same scanning area but better separation in trashy areas....Thought about a
Detech 14X10 or a Coiltek 12X8....

had the coiltek 12x 8 and it is super heavy, it was made super heavy for water hunting so it would ride the bottom or so I was told by Trevor from Coiltek

I prefer the smaller coils myself and lately the NEL SS (think it's 4.5x9.5"?)has been on my Et more than any of the other coils I have. With that said, I recently hunted a site with the NEL and then went back over it with the Ultimate and scared up a few more deeper coins I'd missed first pass. I could be wrong but I "think" the round coils (specifically the Ultimate as I rarely use the Pro for some reason?) do better on the on-edge coins? My favorite coil is the 6" eq2 but usually the coverage aspect/time dictates the use of the NEL SS..... 7-8" wheats/dimes seem to be about the range so far? PPing is much faster/easier for me also. Sometimes I struggle PPing with the big coils. jmo

I've noticed that I had good luck with coins on edge with the Ultimate 13 and the WOT as well....I understand what you are saying to concerning the smaller coils versus time!
Thanks One

The coiltek Platypus works very well for me.

I have two elliptical coils,
NEL SharpShooter 9.5X5.5
NEL Hunter 12.5X8.5
Both are DD's. Found a lot of keepers with both.

Although the small SS will cover more area/sweep, because of its large length/width ratio dimension it has some separation problems in dense junk areas.
It also has a habit of IDing corroded iron as silver. I use it primarily in areas where i don't expect deep targets or when i'm in the mood for clad.
IMO, a small round coil would be the best for separation in dense junk areas. One of those will be my next coil purchase, if i ever get time to detect again this year.

The Hunter on the other hand has a slight edge over the stock coil for sweep area and also depth wise. IDs are good too. Found my 1st SLQ with it this year.

My goto coil has and is my NEL Tornado. Outperforms the stock coil in all categories hands down.

Do you have the newer Tornado or the older version? I noticed it has been redesigned a little. Mine will be coming tomorrow and hope for improved depth. Do you use the Tornado around houses or only fields.?

Assume your question is for me?

I got my Tornado i think it was 3 years ago. The original had an interference fit at the coil bolt. Mine didn't so i think i got the 2nd generation re-designed one.
I believe they might have updated it since.
My experience with the Tornado is improved depth over the stock coil. My record depths for coins were with the Tornado using manual sensitivity.

I use it just about everywhere. For a larger coil it has good separation too. Its my goto coil.
A couple things to keep in mind; it is noticeably heavier than the stock coil, the coil cover does not fit tight enough to keep 'falsing' debris out at least with mine and since its a sensitive coil don't go overboard with the manual sensitivity. I up the manual sens. to a point where i get a false every 2 or 3 sweeps.
Back to the coil cover, the debris issue between the cover and coil was bad enough that i pitched the coil cover and go coverless.

Good luck with yours.
