DD Coils

D&P-OR

What are the advantages/disadvantages (pros & cons) of the 10D2 versus 6"X10" DD coils when used on the MXT?---When used in the same ground, same detector settings, etc.--all things being equal (as much as possible).--------Thanks, Del

For comparison reasons, an elliptical coil is essentially a round coil of the smallest dimension, in other words a 6" DD compared to the 10" D2. The advantages of the 6X10 are better separation, possibly better pinpointing, a little less ground noise, good coverage and lighter in weight. The only disadvantage I can think of is less depth. The 6X10 is a very popular coil when depth is not your #1 concern. I used the 6X10 for many years as my everyday coil with my DFX and I switched to the EXcelerator 10"DD when it came out and gained about an extra inch in depth over the 6X10. The Ex10DD and the White's D2 work the same in depth for me. Quality and service long after the warranty has expired really separates the two coils though.

I've also noticed that the 6x10 can be worked closer in to metal structures than my D2 in case you have that consideration. If I "side up" to the pole etc, with the 6x10 I can pick out targets a little closer to the interference. Hope that helps Del.
