DD coil vs concentric coil.

I am wondering if anyone could tell me the main difference between the DD coil and the concentric coil. I primarily hunt coins, find some jewelry from time to time. Which coil is better for coin hunting? Thanks and good luck with the rest of the season.

DD's should get better depth in high mineralized soil. DD's also make most bottle caps sound like coins whereas concentrics tend to read them as junk,

I'm just curious... has anyone in TX / NM / AZ etc. tried a concentric? Here in SW New Mexico, my gb runs from around 83 - 75, occasionally as high as 90. I sure would like to have the ability to better ID the dreaded bottlecaps...

I've been doing a sand bar where boaters congregate to party and swim and the place is crawling with pull tabs and bottle caps - a sorry state of affairs if you ask me, but that's another story. Anyway, my point is that I'm getting tons of practice with both pull tabs and bottle caps. I have the stock 11" DD coil on my AT Pro and feel now that I can ID a bottle cap easily. But you know what? I STILL dig'em, just in case!

The bottle caps will scream like a quarter at times but there's always "clucking" around the edges like a mother hen. Whereas the quarter, or dime, will have a nice clean tone, no clucking.

HH no matter which coil you choose.

I still need more practice with them, but have noticed I dig more bottle caps that are smashed flat that sound off as a coin.

I've used the 6 x 9 concentric and it preformed nicely, but I prefer the 5 x 8 DD coil for it's better seperation and it seems to hit better on small gold items. Running the ATP with Iron Disc at 35, bottlecaps are just scratchy things with the 5 x 8. Old deep smashed ones can sometimes fool you if you're not watching the VDI numbers. BC's will give you a high number followed by a low number and will grunt when you turn Iron Audio on. I dig a few but mostly just to verify that it is a BC that I'm hearing.

That's about what my GB numbers run in here in Central Texas and I don't have any trouble running the concentrics around here. That being said, I much prefer the 5 x 8 DD for it's excellent seperation qualities.

Thanks, BCD. That's pretty much what I thought - I think I'll pick up a sniper for certain extra junky sites, maybe pick up a concentric to play with after my wish list is depleted (yeah, right  )

Same here. I get fooled by the squashed ones here and there. Actually some in better condition get past me, which probably tells more about my abilities than the machines . When I put more effort in and use apropriate settings the tone roll helps me to bypass bottle caps better than any machine that I've had yet. I really like this feature.

It's gottten so I chuckle when I dig a squashed bottle cap. ..sounds exactly like a coin. ..the regular caps, you can hear a little roughness on the outsides of the tone. ..still dig some of those just in case.

Same numbers here in North Texas as well . I have found I get more depth with the large DD coil but not as goood ID with it as the 5X8 DD and the 5X8 DD has a better roll over on those smashed rusted bottle caps when set at pro zero and iron at 35 with the iron audio on for me. here where I hunt the old beaches sand those rusted bottle caps are plentiful and always come in at about 82 to 83 but go different direction and you get that slight rollover grunt
