DD 1400 Coil Question

I'm a complete noobie and I just purchased a used MXT with a DD 1400 coil. I'm not sure if this coil is working properly but it's probably just me. Do the DD coils only detect on the outside edges? I know when I pass over a coin I get a hit as each edge passes over the coin and instead of a single tone like with the 950.

Also, does anyone have any tips for pinpointing with the DD 1400? ;-) I can't seem to pinpoint at all with it.

Thanks in advance!

I use 3-4 Double D coils and they work just like the other kind for tecting--- Pinpointing I use the same method for both kinds of coils--I use the X pattern---Big coils dont work well in trash,If there is very much that could cause a problem pin pointing by the signals being two close together---

So does it sound like my coil is defective? If I'm over a piece of ground with no metal and I put a coin down it only detects the coin on the outside edges so instead of the single tone I get when I sweep over it with the 950 I get two tones, one at each edge of the coil. Both show the correct info in the display but it seems strange to me.

Thanks

Hi Wolf. I'm new to the MXT as well. Here is a link that has a lot of good info on using the MXT. It's written by Chris Ralf (Reno Chris). It's posted on the Alaska Mining forum. Check it out, should help answer some questions you may have.

I know this is the way the Explorers work with the DD coil if the coil is too close to the coin, so we just lift them up a little when we get too close to the coin and get multiple signals. Give it a try and see what it does.
