Day tripping

We needed a day to chill out and get away. I passed all my testing for getting into the pipe fitter's union. That is the only outlet for doing pipe work in WV. I used the day to check out future MD'ing sites.
First stop for my wife's sake: the glass factory. Gave us a personal demonstration and asked us what we would want him to make. I talked MD'ing of course. He wanted to see the marbles I had found. I told him, I don't know a good one from a bad one. He laughed. He said, "I know".
He told me to bring in the gold flakes and nuggets I had. He said he would make me what I wanted with them at showroom price. He said gold looks larger and is beautiful in glass. Hum, maybe a paper weight?

They gave us a few small glass pieces and my wife bought the larger item for her mother. We had a special clear picture made with colors shooting up from the center for my mother. It cost us no more than the show room price. It had to cool over night and was shipped today.

We left and went to see a CW battle field. These were the confederate trenches. A 1/4 mile away there was a place on private land that was cleared. all fresh dirt. I didn't bring my MD'er for my wife's sake.

I bet this tree saw some action. It was the only big tree in the area.

There were a lot of carvings on the rocks.

This is my future MD'ing site. They carried the bodies from the train to bury them on the hill. I am checking on the ownership of the house in the center. It is vacant and is beside the cemetery. It is 12 miles from my house.

No MD'ing today. Have to work on the car. Inspection day.

That carving is quite interesting about Clay Jackson. Heck....he could have been buried under where you were standing :spin:

Nice photos and story. I was driving through West Virginia and got stopped by a state trooper who told me my NYS inspection was out of date. He said he couldn't do anything about it, and I thought he said there was no inspection is West Va. This was about 8-10 years ago. He told me to slow down and have a safe trip home and to get my truck inspected the day after I got back. I did. Overall, it was a real positive experience for getting stopped by a cop.

Great pictures John. Hope you get to MD some of those sites.

John, enjoyed the pics. from washington,wv. right outside of Parkersburg. Haven't been home in a while. My sister bought the old school back home where I went to grade school. I think I can get permission to md there. Going home in June. taking mdr. HH Gary

Congrats on passing the test. I remember many years ago when I took the Carpenter's test in California I asked them how hard it was and they said 19 had taken it that day and seventeen had flunked it. It was actually a contractors test. Luckily I passed with flying colors. Beautiful glass work. Be waiting to hear of your success MD'ing those spots.

Bill[/quote]I took my journeyman's carpenter test back in the early 80's. I passed too although I gave up that work many years ago. My Dad was a retired carpenter. He had 40 some years in the union.

Hey John,
Great pics and wish you many goodies from that new hunting site.
I'm sure your mother in law will be delighted with her glass ornament
it really looks a stunning piece.
Yep, it sure pays to keep in with the mother in law. Nice touch John.

Close to 40 for me also. I started in residential drywall then graduated to commercial work and wound up as an Exterior Interior Construction Specialist. Wish I was still working as I'd be making a ton of money. :)
