DAVE POCHE  AUSTRIAN .71 CAL. RAMROD TIP

ihuntrelics!

New member
Hello Dave, about two years ago I had posted pics of this ramrod tip and we thought it could be an Austrian because I had found a .71 cal. drop nearby. You asked if I could post some measurements of it so you could take notes of it for future reference. Well I had somehow misplaced it back then and have recently found it tucked away in one of my detecting gear bags. Here is a bunch of pics showing the various sizes and the weight in grains.

Great Scott !! Wonderful ...wonderful Super I'll have to download these pictures. Thanks a million. One last measurement which I don't think you got. It's inside the cup. If you think it's too uneven take about 10 measurements around the inside and PM me with the data.

Thanks for remembering my request. Super.

Scott: Just revisited your post to look at your pictures and get copies. Just noticed something. This tip probably broke off in the barrel. If you look at the second picture of your collection you can see the faint screw imprint of the threaded end of the ramrod on the side of the tip. There was apparently enough room in the barrel for the soldier to try to retrieve the tip by using the remaining ramrod.

Neat.

Dave
