Dave Johnson's Comments on the F75 Coils

"The new searchcoil that will come with the F70 is in the F75-compatible series. Being a concentric it will offer better discrimination on shallow targets esp. steel bottlecaps, and easier pinpointing. The 11 inch DD will normally beat it on discrimination of deeper targets, and on target separation in trashy areas. The 6 1/2 inch elliptical concentric is really good in heavy trash where target separation is more important than extreme depth, and is hotter on tiny targets such as typical gold nuggets."

My question: Does the 10" concentric offer any performance advantage over the stock coil that would justify its purchase? Depth? I got 14" on a minie ball on my first trip out with the stock coil?

Ya, the DD stock coil does go deep, plus the other advantages it has. I've not dug a coin 14", but have a quarter at a full 12". The small 6" coil, however, is surprising me with its depth. Earlier today I recovered a 40 Merc. at 9". No, it didn't blow my ear drums out, but was a good enough tic and id'ed well enough to dig the signal. The F75 in my opinion is so good, it probably merits having the full complement of coils that are, or will become available for it. Just MHO, anyway. HH jim tn

That's astounding for such a small coil! What was your discrimination setting on the dime?

I'm gonna hafta get me one of those small coils for poking in the weeds at old foundations and along stone walls.

The DD coil of the F75 is my first use of such a coil, too. It is terrific in trash and does go deep. I really wish F/T would make a DD coil between the little one and the stock coil size. I concur with your thinking on the 10" cencentric. It could be heller for coin shooting. HH jim tn
