Dave J of FTP explaines the coil compatibilies between Fisher, BH and Teks

The Gold, Titanium, Platinum, Fisher F5, the Teknetics "Greek series", the Euroteks, and the newfangled BH's are all variants of a platform we call in-house the "13-bit platform" because of the peculiar A/D it uses to digitize the signals. Products built on this platform run at 7.8 kHz, use 880uH/8.8mH searchcoils, and have some software in common.

I believe that all the searchcoils used on the 13-bit platform are available with both plug-in and screw-on connectors. -Dave J

Coils outside this platform, even if they fit, would not have beneficial results, IMO.

I am thinking of buying the L.R. Pro . Please tell me the pros and cons of this detector. Thanks, Ron B.

Dave forgot to mention that the Gold Bug, F19 and G2 coils are also compatible.
Only these machines, which run at 19kHz, use DD coils exclusively.

Also, the operating frequency of the 13 bit platform is now 7.69kHz. Dave's information is correct but outdated.

Hope that helps.

Dave was actually responding to a post on another forum that was questioning the coils that would work with the newer Bounty Hunter Pro's You and Yi designed. Any of the 13 bit platforms that "plug in" seems to be the answer. ie the "plug in" Fisher F5 5" coil would work on the Land Ranger Pro. And the older Bounty Hunter 4" is not tuned to the Fratbros even though they plug in.

If you could confirm.

That is correct.

BH Platinum, BH Gold, The new BH PRO line, Teknetics' frat brothers and Fisher's F5 can share coils, as long as the connector fits.
Older Bounty Hunter designs operate at a different frequency and do not share code or hardware topology, so coils are not electrically compatible.
Older coils connectors do fit, and they may work, but poorly. It is not recommended to use an older BH coil on a newer model.

I have a 11" eliptical double D coil on my BH 505 just odered the Fisher Gold bug, can this coil be used on it?

Awesome info guys. Thanks

Now how about converting a BH pro to a threaded plug, worth it or no?

As I switch coils on the Land Ranger Pro and Quick Draw Pro, the plug in makes it pretty swift. I have a wide rubber band around the shaft up by the head. The coils are securely attached to each rod, wire and all. I just change rods and take the plug under the rubber band and plug it in. The only way the plug comes out is grabbing the plug itself by the base. The coil wire stays firmly wrapped.

When I get a 5" DD, it will have its own rod with the same set up. A NEL coil, the same. This is one advantage of the 2 rod design.

Thats a good plan hightone kind of like the budget version of the deus.

But i still dont like the 2 piece rod.
Lol

Some of the best detectors use the 2 rod design. Helps keep it light.

Off topic but i would definitely be for a carbon or kevlar two piece rod for the BH pro line.
