DANIA BEACH "PENNY MADDNESS"

We hit the beach north of the main congestion on Hollwood Beach but still south of the Dania Beach Pier. My wife with her White's M6 worked the dry sand mostly while I did U turns in the surf with the PI moving south. I started hitting pennies. In fact, it was only pennies. After 17 pennies for me and 4 or 5 for my wife. I actually walked round the trash bins until I hit some trash to make sure my machine was working correctly. It was not a coin spill; the pennies were several feet if not several yards apart. But then I realized something; the pennies were recent drops as none were too discolored. Could it be someone is tossing pennies along the surf? - What better way to exhaust someone and keep them from moving south into the tourist area I thought. I would say I walked about 1,000 feet. Any thoughts?

Funny you should say that. Some people here on LI throw the pennies & after diggin about 20 you walk away. I see it at a few different beaches, they get a kick out of it .LOL

could be someone seeded the beach with new pennies or the last people were going more by meter reading than sound and only dug non penny signals....

Possible decoy to keep you away from the good areas.
Spend time digging pennies and no time on the gold rings.

I have a Whites surfmaster so no meter and I am still trying to get a handle on the tone. Pennies ring out like a fire alarm so perhaps I can begin skipping them. The M6 will tell you flat out its a penny every time. "ZINC 1 cent". It has never been wrong. My wife is happy to dig anything however.

Hey Charles, I live here so I am up and down the coastline here on the weekends and any other time I can get away. - As far as leaving some for you, I will get a fresh roll of pennies and toss them out there for you to find.......:twodetecting:

I've seen it at a beach I frequent. I'm almost positive it's another detectorists using a vlf machine only looking for gold and trying to make it impossible for the pi guys or those with cheap machines. If it happens again I'm going to get a thick walled aluminum pipe and cut a whole bunch of rings of varying thickness and ruin the area for them too.

'm going to be in Florida on april 19th to the 27, I'd like tp hook up with a few other hunters todo some hunting. I'll be focusing mainly on Deerfield, Boca raton, Delray, May even shoot up to hit vero. and possibly hit Islamarada sandbar for a day.

Give me a shout if you'd be interested in doing a little hunting.

Ray
