Damn mosquitoes ! !

In the last few days the mosquitoes have come out in force here in the northern part of IL. You can't even hunt in the middle of the day in the shade or you will be eaten alive. Is there anything else, besides dousing one's self with a deet repellant, that will help?
I used to do alot of fishing and would just quit when it got this bad. Don't want to quit detecting for the rest of the spring and summer.
I am guessing this ia a lame question. Let me answer it my self. Put the repellant on and go for it. Shower off later.
Dan.

I also battle the mosquitoes.

The only thing that seems to work is deet-spray and long sleeve shirts with pants. I use Deep Woods Off, which is 25% deet. I carry some with me during the hunt, and in a 4 hour period, I end up spraying myself again and again, because sweat and digging 'wash' it away.

Be careful though, cause they will bite you in your face if they have the chance. The trick is to spray some on your hand then smear a little on each side of your face and ears.

The stuff is suppose to repel ticks too, but I don't believe it cause I constantly find them crawling all over me.

HH and kill some sqeeters for me.

I have the secret weapon against all blood sucking bugs except ticks it is 30.00 its called thermacell they work boy they work when I was bear hunting no would go out cause of the bitting nats they are so bad i could hunt with teashirt no bugs amazing

A must for early bow season here in FL. Keeps you free of the little blood suckers with a 12' diameter of protection.

Long sleeves, Long pants, hat and headphones. 99% deet. I put some on the back of my hand and rub together. Tight fitting glasses.
It's better than 20 below in the winter?

I know what you mean here in Michigan they bite through your shirts. Beter get me a thermacell.

picked up a insect repelling super band today at CVS for 2 bucks ill give it a try will post back . was outside for 4 minutes got bite 2 times. maybe because theres a breeze it didnt work for me.

Thermacell works for me, too, at least here in Va., and as long as there's not a stiff wind blowing. It's also great because it's not a greasy lotion and I can go and pick up my 1 year old daughter as soon as I get home and give her a big hug without having to wash off.

The woods I hunt in are FULL of the little f'rs. Even when I am sprayed down, I see about a dozen flying around me at any given time. Are they pretty thick down in VA?

My buddy has been using the thermacell when we backpack. I thought it was going to be snake oil but apparently they really work. They even work when walking at a brisk pace.

Hmm....I read up on it on the net and have seen some good and some not so good reviews about. Mostly good though.
Guess I will have to give it a try. Can't hurt. Doesn't cost much. Just ordered one.
Dan.

I have had excellent luck with the "Sweat Resistant OFF"

Hey I read this and went around for about three hours humming that bug song.
you know,the one that goes:
There ain't no bugs on me,oh,There ain't no bugs on me.
There might be bugs on some a you mugs.
but there ain't no bugs on me.

I know what you mean I've quit detecting early the last couple detecting outings due to mosquitoes, I have at least 10 bites and I was using deep woods off. It's pretty bad when you can hear them buzzing around your head even through your headphones, I may have to give that Thermacell a try.

I had to break the cycle of your song and sing the one about Oscar Meyer Baloney...you know the one that goes "My BALONEY HAS A FIRST NAME. IT'S O-S-C-A-R...:buds::chase:
