Well dad has been doing pretty well on his new dialysis machine over the last 2 months or so and was actually in the mood to get another hunt in before it gets too cold on us.
He has been telling me he wondered if he could still find silver after all these years...and I told him I knew he still had it in him.![Thumb Up  ](https://www.findmall.com/styles/smileys/thumbup.gif)
Anyway we decided to hunt a spot on our property that saw some use in the mid 40's to 50's as a partying place for teenagers.
We have kept it up nice...rocked a driveway to it...and also built a small shed.
I also has been filled in spots and the coins are very deep if you're lucky enough to find any.
It's a part of a large 10 acre area with lots of ground to cover...so dad pulled up on HIS version of a 4-wheeler.![Bouncy :bouncy: :bouncy:](https://www.findmall.com/styles/smileys/bouncy.gif)

I told him to take my E-Trac along too since he had already pounded the area with XLT's in the early 90's ...so he did just that.
He started out with the xlt...and as I expected...wasn't getting many signals since we had hit this place before with an xlt many times in years past....and I mean MANY times.
Before long I got a very high warble with the SE/X-12 combo.
It wasn't a great signal...but it was very deep...and just had that sweet high warbly tone to it.
Even though it broke up somewhat...you could just tell it had a shot at being silver.
I called dad over and he ran the xlt over it.
He got NOTHING....except for a ticked off look on his face because he couldn't hit it.
He tried everything..but just flat out could not get a peep.
This is no surprise because I knew this possible target was very deep...so there was no shame in the fact that his xlt wouldn't hit it...especially when we had been over the area numerous times with an xlt and an Eagle 2 SL a few years earlier as I mentioned. I'm not even sure where I had the preamp gain or any of the other settings at to help maximize depth.
I am NOT brand bashing...and NOT downing the xlt in ANY way...because I OWN one...and it is a GREAT detector...in my opinion one of the TOP 5 of all time.
Well we dug the plug down to about 8" before the probe would sing.
I then dug down another 2" and popped out this clod with a nice shiny disc sticking out....so the merc was right at 10"down
[attachment 176689 coins350.jpg]
It was then that he went to the bullpen and brought out the relief pitcher...the E-Trac.
Took dad a little while to familiarze himself with the E-Trac after using the xlt the last few hunts...but he did okay.
He studied what it was saying to him and sometimes got a puzzled look on his face when distinguishing all the sounds he heard.
[attachment 176690 dadhuntb.jpg] [attachment 176691 dadhuntc.jpg]
Before long he called me over to check a signal for him.
He had been messing with it for about 5 minutes and told me he felt is was a diggable hit...so I checked it with my SE.
I liked what I heard because the warble was very high pitched...and was squeaking through a dead null.
The E-Trac chirped....but never gave him the sweet warble that my SE w/ X-12 coil gave me until I switched it to all metal quickmask....and even then it STILL wasn't the same. Even through all of it...Dad felt it was a coin target.
I told him to go ahead and pinpoint...and that I would help him dig it.
Well we got down about 9" and he got his first silver rush in some time
....and it was accompanied by a little piece of iron laying right accross the
word "Liberty".
You can see in the pic where the rust stain is still right through the word...making the find that much more special for my dad.![Please :please: :please:](https://www.findmall.com/styles/smileys/please.gif)

He then said..."Now we're even on the silver...Mr. hot shot".![Bouncy :bouncy: :bouncy:](https://www.findmall.com/styles/smileys/bouncy.gif)
Now you see where my attitude comes from![Smoke :smoke: :smoke:](https://www.findmall.com/styles/smileys/smoke.gif)
A short time later I got another sweet hit on the SE...and just knew it was gonna' be silver.
I dug a deep plug and piled the dirt up on along the edge.
I then ran the probe and it sang...but it didn't sound like silver now!
I scraped some dirt at about the 10" level and saw a stinkin' orange, crusty wheatie staring at me.![Thumb Down  ](https://www.findmall.com/styles/smileys/thumbdown.gif)
I started to scrape the piled dirt back in the hole so I could plug it...when I caught the glimpse of some shiny stuff.![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
What a SWEET surprise when I saw the Washington quarter laying there in the dirt.
I KNEW the SE was talking silver to me before I dug the hole...and now I knew why.
It was a pocket spill and the wheatie had sunk an inch or two deeper than the quarter.
When I dug the plug...then began scraping the dirt out...I obviously scraped out the quarter with it...leaving the wheatie in the hole a little deeper.![Beers :beers: :beers:](https://www.findmall.com/styles/smileys/beers.gif)
My girlfriend Sheryl was working the EX2 but gave the E-Trac a whirl when Dad was using the XLT. She doesn't go often...but on occasion if the sun and moon align just right
...she doesn't mind getting her fingernails dirty.
Today she was havin' some fun.

We thought she was gonna' dig a wheatie...but it ended up being a memorial cent right at 7" deep. Oh well..it still opened up a smile on her pretty face.![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)

What a sweet hunt with my dad and my lady.
To see Dad's face light up when he popped out some shiny stuff was something I will always remember.![Angel  ](https://www.findmall.com/styles/smileys/angel.gif)
