d2's Yankee Coin Poke

SoArk

New member
On June 6th of this year, d2 came up with south Arkansas' Find of the Decade!

The Yankees had been routed, they had lost another supply train to the "Good Guys", and Yankees were scattering throughout the countyside to escape capture by Shelby's cavalry. A half mile from the main part of the battlefield.... one of the blueclads lost his poke... perhaps the hanky they had been secured within had jarred loose from his bedrole. As the soldier ran and ducked and dodged trying his durndest to get away..... the coins hit the ground in the heavy timber.....and they laid there for over 141 years..... until Tim walked across the top of them with his detector on..... ping.... ping... ping.....

The rest is shown in the pics!

d2,

I got them posted for you. Now, if you'll provide the particulars on the dates... and on the square bullet.... we'll have it done.

I wonder in Dave Poche can tell us what rifle had the square bore?

Take Care,

Kim

Thanks for postin'the pictures Kim, my pictures always turn out huge.
I found the coins on June 6 late one evening. The first evening I found the 5 quarters 2 half dimes and 27 dimes all seated except for the oldest dime it was an 1836 "bust" the year we became a state. I went back the next evening and found 1 more dime. I sat on the place for 4 days befor I carried my buds over there and we found nothing except for the "square" bullet and Jim found that. a couple of weeks later we went back and Kim found 2 more quarters in the most logical place that I had not thought to look. Kim tried to give 'em to me then and I would not take 'em,then. A couple of weeks or so ago I gave Kim the .54 MS. and bought Jim a shovel and swapped 'em out of the rest of the poke. Now it is all together under one roof,MINE. Thanks guys for lettin' me have it all...d2

We assume the "squared up" 3 ringer was carried perchance as a good luck charm and he kept it with his money. We have no way of knowing for sure but being as it was all found in a very small area we know that it was all lost at the same time. Even though he was a yankee I hope that his good luck charm worked for him and he lived through the war and into old age...d2

D2, it was just your time, and luck had nothing to do with it. You are a blessed person to have good friends and hunting partners like Jim and Kim. Finding good stuff is wonderful, but the friendship is what really counts. Keep on keeping on.

1 is an 1836 bust dime, the rest are seated. 1853 all the way up to 1860. Thanks for the comments...d2
