D2 vs. Excellerator 10"

I have been wondering about trying out that new D2 coil everybody is raving about, but I don't have the $250 in clad finds to swing it just yet.

Has anyone tested the D2 against the Excellerator 10" coil? The Excell is favorable pricewise, but it would not be much of a bargain if it did not perform.

I haven't tested it against the Whites D2, but I can say that the EXcelerator 10" is a great coil and well worth the money, I have found that the Excelerator coils work as well and in some cases works better then the Whites coils { not knocking Whites coils by no means } Whites detectors and coils are # 1 in my book........:whites:..........:usaflag:

What environment do you use the Excell in? I'm wondering about moderate trash you might find on some schoolyards. I have the 10x6 Eclipse coil, which I use quite a bit, but was interested in better coverage and more depth.

The 10x6 really hits hard on coins and rings, up to 6" or so in depth. Any deeper, I still get decent audio, but of course the VID becomes a little 'confused'.

What could I gain by switching from the 10x6 Eclipse to the 10" Excell? I am also curious about that new Whites D2.

Many posts have been made comparing the two coils, you might have to go back a couple of months. White's, or a dealer might still have a $100 off coupon, check with some of our sponsors.

Both coils work about the same but the D2 is built to higher (White's) standards and resale value might be higher as well. I have and use both, but prefer the D2.

Yes Larry, there is alot of opinion about those coils already posted. I went out to a trashy park today, and used the 10x6. I had been using the 5.3 exclusively the past couple of months.

I must admit, I feel the 5.3 does a better job in garbage around picnic tables and the like. It seems to me that, in comparing the two coils, it's as if 10x6 gives the detector an extra gain step. That can be a bad thing among little pieces of aluminum, especially if you are looking for small rings down 4" or so.

Maybe what I need is a small coil that's a touch hotter than the Shooter. I have ran that coil in extreme garbage, but I really don't like it that much. I think my SunRay probe could rival it on depth!

It's funny, the 5.3 was the first coil I bought for my MXT. I used it for about 2 years, then decided to get the 10x6, which I liked so well I forgot about the 5.3, and ran only it for 2 years. Somewhere in there I got a Shooter coil for tight spots.

It seems like the 10x6 has too much pop, and the 5.3 not quite enough. (Yeah, I know, I read something about a 'gain' knob on my detector.) Maybe what I really need is a coil that can detect whether or not there is any brain activity going on inside my head!

I also use the EXcelerator 4.5 X 7 it works great in the trashy areas and gives you a bigger foot print then the 4 X 6 shooter.

As far as testing the D2 against the EXcelerator 10", Larry would know my opinion is, he is a pro..........:whites:........
