D2 Coil on MXT Pro

Blind Dr

New member
I just had a run with a D2 coil on my MXT Pro. Who has one on theirs? I am getting lots of noise with this coil on. Lots of falsing when the coil bumps into grass and such. This coil is acting silly as compared to the 5.3 or the stock 12inch coil. Any ideas? I am not able to crank up as much threshold with this coil as compared with the stock and the 5.3. It just acts weird....:)

Sounds like a coil issue. I run the 10'DD about 70% of the time, and when I do it is wide open. This is on a regular MXT.

I thought I was having problems with my D2 on my MXT Pro on the beach but after a couple of days of posting my issues on this sight, I did some testing.... and this is what I found.... With mu MXT 300 on at the same time as my MXT Pro, they were cross talking and my Pro would make pulsating noise and my VDI numbers were all over the place. My MXT 300 didn't seem to be effected by this or at least it didn't have any obvious issues. With my MXT 300 on and sitting stationary in my driveway, I had to walk away at least 50-60 feet away before my MXT Pro would calm down. I first discovered there was a problem when my wife and I took both detectors to the ocean and tried to detect wet sand. If I recall correctly, I thought somebody had also commented that they thought that the D2 was not that good in a salt environment. I also tried my MXT Pro with the D2 around my yard and it worked awesome as long as I didn't turn on my MXT 300. I hope that this helps.... HH Jack from Southern NH

[size=large]no problems with my D2. great separation and depth. haven't been near any beaches. i agree with johninnc. seems the D2 has a bad rep.

There were some bad early D2's made, you might have one of them if you bought it used. The D2 is a more sensitive coil by the design of the windings and bumping them tends to false more than a concentric coil but the D2 is superior to 950 and Super 12 on separation and depth in mineralized ground.
