CZ's versus the newest models

Member
I have owned a CZ series detector ever since they first came out but every now and then I have strayed over to one of the latest models (you name it, I have likely tried it).but I have always ended up buying another CZ after test driving a different brand.

So lately, I was getting the urge to go for another test drive - this time it would have been the Whites V3i. I started visiting the Whites forums to see what all the fuss was about. I am sure that the V3i is a very good detector but the reality is that I really don't think that the V3i would find anything that my CZ 70 Pro could not find.

On the Whites forums, they are still complaining (like every other brand) of having to dig pull tabs in order to be sure that they are not missing a gold ring. The fact of the matter is that if you want to find any gold - you have to dig just about everything in the pull tab/foil range.

When it comes to silver coins, the V3i folks are happy to be digging the occasional silver coin at 12" but I have pulled a silver dime from the same depth so I do not see the sense in again jumping ship just so I can have the latest and greatest.

Maybe the V3i would find the odd extra silver coin that the CZ might have missed but I am not going to spend a fortune to find out if that is the case - the V3i would have to find a heck of a lot of extra silver or gold to make up for the price difference between the two models.

I pretty much agree. I do think the V3 gives more information for the user to make a decision to dig or not. And that info can not be 100% all the time so for me I dig and dig and dig, I was shopping hard for a new MD and had it down to the Etrac or V3,,,, then a good deal on a CZ3D came along and I thought I had as much MD as the other two with a third of the price,,,,, we will see as I have not been able to work mine much yet,

I am kind of like you .
I like try stuff.
The CZs are great machines there only handycap is no DD coil for them.
If you want a change of pace the G2/Gold Bud [same unit]
are not the deepest but work great in iron, hot on gold and easy/fun to use.
I run a F75LTD.GB. and a CZ 70 and would hate to part with any

I would like a DD

Plain and simple like DonM have tried a bunch and always come back to a CZ one model or the other. Simplicity and depth not easily matched by the next thing out that is better than sliced bread. Lets face it with the exception of the audio variances of some older machines and Tesoro comes to mind tough to tell the difference between a gold ring and the junk that mimics it. Have to hand it to Whites as they do make well made multi-faceted lots of info units with learning periods but as grouser relates to those that investigate may dig a lot but come home with the gold rings and the only way to be sure is to dig.
Had I stuck with my original CZ6 in 92 it would probably still be working well and I would have saved bucks and aggravation and now have a CZ5. Have to admit I learned a lot along the way met some nice people but cringe at the money I spent on shipping alone but thats history and my CZ5 pulled me 3 older mercs and a 1897 barber quarter and 20 plus wheaties in the last week in an area ravaged by many detectorists and units so why argue with success.

double D coil...that half of the detecting population would buy one. I would definitely be in that half of the population.

Anyone who wanted the deepest silver killer on the planet in the 90's...owned a CZ...and if they didn't they were not going as deep as they could.

If I didn't do most of my hunting in heavy iron...my CZ70Pro would be used much more often.

That being said...in clean ground...I think the CZ's depth of the 90's will run neck and neck with any brand on the market today.

Well said Bryce! A good CZ is still as deep or deeper than any new detector made. Even with disc set at a low setting, they would not hunt in the trash and heavy iron like the newer detectors being sold. A good dd coil might have helped some. First Texas should be looking at what the people want. R.L.

Thats the reason I got another CZ-3D on the way. I love my E-trac,But it is hard to beat a good old CZ of any type for pure raw depth coil for coil! It isn't the 1021or1121, I was looking for ,But it will hit a clad dime 11'' with the dankowsi test which is better than the original 1021 I bought new when they first came out. I will have to see if it does as well in the ground when it gets here.

The CZ detectors are still some of the best detectors made. They are a tad heavy, but built to last unlike the new detectors that feel so flimsy and cheaply made. I wouldn't trade my CZ5 for any of the new detectors on the market now.... it does what I want it to do and it does it well.
I got out this afternoon in the heat for a hunt and pulled this 1920 mercury dime out of a pounded site. I was about 7 inches deep and standing straight up and down in the hole. It was a broken signal one way and locked on high tone at 90 degrees.
It would be interesting to see what a DD coil would do on a CZ detector, but I prefer the concentric coils over DD coils. The DD coils seem to like junk targets much more than the concentric coils. HH

I gave in and bought an upgraded V3 (now a V3i) - it was too good a deal to pass up - I'm still hanging onto my CZ 70 for now at least. I'll test drive the V3 and if it does not work to my liking, then it will on the market later but on the other hand if it works for me, then the CZ will going up for sale. We'll see how it pans out.

good to try different things,,, lets us know how it goes HH
