CZ's compared to Pulse Machines for the beach

I've been using my CZ6A on the beach in all metal mode and it works well for me. The pinpointing is good and the coverage with the 10" coil is adequate. I get about another inch of depth over my Tesoro Sand Shark with the 8" coil and my take home seems to be slightly greater with the CZ6A. The Sand Shark is a pulse machine and I've found the Sand Shark has a slight advantage in the heavy black sand.

I've been considering getting a Whites Dual field as the machines are very popular here in S. California. I've never used a Whites Dual field. Does anybody have experience with the Whites Dual field? How would you compare the dual field to the CZ's for the beach? I don't mind digging iron on the beach as I find it useful in determining where the heavy stuff is hiding. If I get into heavily infested iron areas I can choose to use the double blib for discriminating if necessary.

Some people swear by the Excaliburs but personally I don't like the audio response of the Excaliburs. They sound like a french horns to me.

Harvdog,
My CZ6a with the 12 inch sunray coil is close to same depth as my Sand Shark with the 10.5 inch coil. Of course I can't walk into the waves with the CZ6a. CZ20 I have with the 8 inch coil mostly seems just a tad short of the other two combinations, but sometimes has me scratching my head about how many scoops I had to dig to get the target (did I miss the center or was it really that deep?).

I'd suggest asking the same question on the beach and scuba forum. There are at least a handful of hunters over there that have used the Dual Field.
Cheers,
tvr

As far as I am concerned especially on salt water wet beaches a land CZ or Sov. excell..

Never used or held a pulse machine so no comment except they seem to excell on extremely mineralized beaches..

Tvr has the right idea check the appropriate forums for further input on your total question....

OK Thanks TVR,

I've kind of avoided the beach forum as I find there are a few "chest thumpers" there that sort of get under my skin. I find the guys in this forum to be more helpful in a friendly and positive sort of way. Dan has been extremely generous in his contributions and I like to thank him for that.

Have a great day,

It is not really fair to compare PI detectors with VLF discrimination units.
They work in different ways.
If I were hunting low tide wet saltwater sand I would want to use a PI to get that extra depth and dig every target.
On the beach in dry sand I would choose a VLF with discrimination and look for recently lost jewelry.

Most VLF discriminating detectors are single frequency and dont handle the salt water well.
The Minelab Sovereign's, Excalibur's, Fisher CZ series do well in salt water because they use more than one frequency.

The PI detectors have no discrimination and are always in all metal mode.
They will (except for rare occasions) detect metal objects deeper than VLF machines.

That's funny I kinda thought they sound like a dog barking when Pinpointing. I just did a video on comparing the DF to a new excal, and a excal with a amp on it...

Next trip I have planned to take the DF, a 8 inch excal with the amp, a CZ 20 8 inch ...and maybe the garrett infinium for a depth test....... a side by side compare on all and the tones of each, I had planned on running the CZ in Autotune mode for the best depth, but maybe someone can suggest better settings. On the Dual field I found it had a lot of chatter, next trip I will make sure I get more of this audio......

...except for me... today !

I had my Infinium and Goldquest SS v2 out on several salt water beaches hunting the low tide and there was just too much small iron. After 30-40 pieces of wire, screws, nails ( and I was bypassing all the ones I knew were iron...these were the 'good' sounding ones or the ones on the fringe that I had to dig) I went back to the car and got the CZ6a. Was glad to hear for sure the iron and bypassing those targers, started digging nickels and other coins. Got more coins with the CZ today than the PI's due to the time NOT digging all the small iron or the time it takes to investigate it.

Sometimes these days with the PI make you glad you brought a VLF for back up ! Still gotta give the PI's the upper hand most days on the salt water beaches. But the CZ's hold their own.
