CZ7A and nails, can I notch them out?...

I have found about 20 nails with the CZ7A in the past 13 hrs of hunting, they give a great signal but I did notice they are hard to pinpoint which might mean don't dig it. I have iron notched out. Hunted a hilltop with lots of volcanic rock today, kept getting good signals, dig and dig and found nothing, it was also hard to pinpoint, am I experiencing hot rocks maybe? I found a 1942 brass 10 Pfennig coin in fair condition in the forest after 2 hrs of swinging then went to a lane that leads to a church on the hilltop and found 1.70 Euros that I missed last Fall. HH, any help would be appreciated, Mike

Hunting in Germany your nails may be different as even over the years nails have changed over the years in U.S. Here in Pa. digging a hotrock or being bothered by them is almost non exisent, but I imagine after a while you will experiment and learn to avoid them to an extent..
Here are a couple of tips...make sure the target repeats from two right angle swings, swinging side to side., if the target seems to move while pinpointing or just sounds bigger than a coin chances are its a rusty nail that has rusted and leached into the ground and your picking up the halo which usually lands in coins all. Dig it and lay it on ground and it will be completely notched out so perhaps if you have a hole dug might want to go over it in all metal.Last but not least after a lot of practice it will just sound different than a coin that falls in coins all.I still remember my original CZ6 that I wanted to wrap around a tree after digging 5-6 foot deep nails. So be patient and visit Mike's CZ page as we all dig a deep nail now and then but they will be far and few between once you get the feeling for them. I find that strictly using a CZ and not switching back and forth with another machine will lessen the learning period..Heck your just a rookie as I have used one model or another since 92 and they do like those deep rusty nails and with practice can be tolerated digging very few..

with the C$ I rarely dig nails or screws unless I relic hunt with it.
But CZ's are known for lovin old rusty iron.

Mike, I use Zero disc when I hunt with my CZ 3d & 6a, and also used zero disc when I used a 7a pro. I like to listen to all thats in the ground. To me, a nail will give a low tone and when you come off the nail, it will go high tone. But even when I think its a nail, I still go ahead and dig it, some times a coin will be hidding in the nails. A nail can mask out a coin. If you notch out iron, then you do not hear the low tone, all you hear is the high tone. Nails that are bent in a circle give me fits. Also I have heard that a super deep coin will give a low tone and not ID. I have not seen this, but I have not dug a super deep coin yet. Hope this helps..HH..Bj

What did you use to dig those 5 to 6 foot nails ???( I wanted to wrap around a tree after digging 5-6 foot deep nails.) Did you mean 5 to 6 inches ??? HH..BJ

for the feedback. I did notice a nail seemed to go high one way and low the next. I usually dig everything as I have found too many nice finds in the trash zone. I've only used the CZ7A for maybe 20 hours, still learning. HH, Mike

Sometimes my brain and two finger typing just don't work together...Gosh CZ's are deep but I meant I dug 5 or 6 nails that were approx. 12 inches deep. Remember CZ6 was new at this time( no internet) to help and actually Bob Sickler author of the Detectorist gave me some help. I guess CZ's will always like those darn pesky rusty nails but with time in the field and reading Mikes CZ page in time you will dig very few. Always give and takeaways so for user friendly superior depth have to put up with them..
