As many of you know, I recently choose the 70 over the 3d. Recieved the 70 last week but have had a bad head cold ever since. Hope to get out this weekend.
I APPRECIATE EVERYONES THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS CONCERNING BOTH MACHINES, THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INPUT.
My past detectors had solid coils and I would just use eletrical tape to hold the coil cover on and to keep the dirt and sand out.
With the open or spider coils of the Fisher machines I was thinking of using a bead of silicone caulking as a way to keep out the dirt and sand as the covers seem to fit very tightly and would seem to be a pain to keep taking them off and putting them back on.
Any thoughts on the silicone or tape?
Thank you all again,
Jay

If you put silicone on it you'll NEVER get it off again. I had to chip mine off a chunk at a time, after I cracked it. Because they fit SO tight, it's hard enough to get it off without the silicone. So I would vote for the tape. Unless you plan to put it on and never take it off, in which case go for the silicone.

I used silicon on my cover three years ago and never a problem. I would do it again.
Good Hunting.

I have a cover on my coil but I did not put it on all the way complete.
Its on evenly about half way it makes the coil appear a little thicker but it is on very tight and keeps the bottom of the coil from getting scraped up.
It comes off with a little tapping on it around its edges with a closepin as a chisel and light taps with a hammer.

Although the spyder coil seems to fit tight as can be it still gets dirt in it..Get some clear silicone such as they use in bathrooms and one can make a real neat closure and should last for ever and a day.
Most of these can be scraped off with no problem if neeed be in future..Might try it on a similiar item to test to be sure.
One fellow took the time to just lightly sand all the edges of the coil so the cover slips on and off to be cleaned often..Some good ideas from interested posters for sure and whatever works and mine is siliconed on...Do not use a clear glue as it sure won't come off and become a permanent addition...

Jay, why can't Fisher make a solid coil cover to cover the spider shape of the coil. Several years back I bought a Sunray Intruder coil for a Sovereign that came with a solid coil cover. I guess some people have to see the part of the coil to where they pinpoint with. I have never been able to remove a Fisher coil cover without breaking it. If I had a round cover, I have no doubt that I could get if off cleanly. Also, a solid cover would not catch on brush or twigs. This has been one of my pet peeves since I started using Fishers. I guess it is a small price to pay for one of the best brands available! R.L.
