cz70 question

Went out yesterday with my new 70 and had trouble using the pinpoint mode. After getting a hit in the ID mode I would move the coil away then press and hold the pinpoint button then go back over the target and get no sound, then while still holding in pinpoint I would sweep the coil over my digging spade and get no sound as well. After spending way too much time on recovering the target it was always a tab.
This happened on a number of occassions, any thoughts? Am I doing something wrong?
Jay

Are you notching out tabs. Are you ground balancing the right way on clean virgin ground. Are you wrapping your coil nice and tight?????

jay,
My guess is that you pressed the P/P button while the coil was over another target. When that happens the machine detunes and will not respond to anything.

I think Jackpine nailed this one as a CZ is powerful and you can detune very easily. I hope you have strong batteries as low batteries will make the pinpoint malfunction..I do hope its not defective machine, but feel its your lack of knowledge with the new machine and if it doesn't do it all the time would just hit the field and practice.

I had the same problem. I went back and read the manual again and it said when you push pinpoint it will take a few seconds to kick in. I tried it and it worked perfect and haven't had a problem since.

I'm with you on the number of occasions it happens.
That is the pinpoint don't work. ( but it does)
I don't ever worry about it as it works just great when I don't end up hitting on something around where I am using the detector.
I had been in several places where there where so many close targets I actually was detuning the detector in pinpoint mode and did just like you. thought maybe there was something wrong. No problem as it was just finally getting on a spot near the target I could get near ground and finally swing into the target and get a pinpoint and depth readout after trying several times and from several different angles. I was very delibertley trying to find out if my detector had a problem.
I don't run around searching in the pinpoint mode but use the pinpoint quit a bit and have not run out of battery juice unexpectedly yet. Of course I am not doing any by the minute battery tests about it either. when my battery indicator goes down to 1 symbol its new batteries or a recharged set goes in.
